Flash BIOS

Recommended Posts

First of all I have never flashed a BIOS before so I need to be 100% sure of what I'm doing.

I've got a PackardBell Auckland (Asus M2N-NVM OEM) motherboard with socket AM2 and is running windows XP. The problem is, PackardBell have locked the sliders for voltage and FSB which are what I intend to lock up with flashing in a new BIOS

But i can't find exactly the motherboard I got on Asus homepage, well well there are a few that is called M2N but no M2N-NVM. They are linking to a program called Afudos BIOS update tool V2.21 under the M2N motherboard. Should I use that to flash my BIOS? I'm also wondering which BIOS I should use to replace the one I already got. Do you believe that I can replace the PackardBell **** with something from Asus homepage?? Or should I test this modified PackardBell-BIOS for exactly the same motherboard as i got that I found it here?

I googled and saw your thread at moddb:

http://www.moddb.com/forum/thread/flash-bios

Listen to the man when he said something like "Don't flash the BIOS if there isn't a problem". You want to overclock? Not recommended on a factory-made PC. You might have to do a lot in regards to RAM, voltages, then what about your power supply?

From your thread:

"So somebody:

1. Can I use a BIOS from ASUS instead and in that case, which one should I get?

2. Which program should I use?"

1) Yes, but only if it's a release of the EXACT model. Any variant might not work and **** you over. ASUS manufactured this motherboard it seems to your computer manufacturer, thus ASUS might/probably won't have a new BIOS for you, only your computer manufacturer. It isn't a board I can go out and buy from Best Buy or NewEgg.

2) Only programs made by your mobo manufacturer (ie: Asus) should be used to update. And I still don't like them. Though that might just because I know how to flash with a floppy.

Well I can't find any drivers from Asus for my specific board so I guess that the only thinbg to do is to tewst this modified PackardBell BIOS. According to the thread it should work? If I try it and it doesn't work is there then any way to restore the old BIOS?

There's ways to back it up... I am not sure how to do it for your specific boards.

Why not just email the company and ask them if there's a newer version, if so where and how do I flash it? Back it up? Etc...

What I always do is I go to forums and ask things, but I also email the company that made the thing I am asking about. Companies in regards to how to update things, mod things, will not lie to you and aren't normally wrong because it is afterall, their product and their label they're representing.

That way, if the forum option doesn't really give you a clear-cut choice, at least it will only be a day before the company gets back to you.
