Getting Minimaps working with the RA3 Worldbuilder

Recommended Posts

The in-game mini-map is a preview of your map, and where you see your radar. The Worldbuilder does not create the mini-map for you. You MUST create it yourself. Without a custom art.tga file, the mini-map in the upper right corner will be black during game play. Below are the instructions:

  1. In Worldbuilder set the camera to top down view and zoom out so you get the whole map in your view.

  2. Go to the edit menu and uncheck waypoints, object maps, until all you see is the bare map and the objects on it.

  3. Now take a screenshot of the map (hit 'print screen').

  4. Open it in a graphic program (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro or Gimp) that can save as .tga image type (Gimp is free. You can get it here.)

  5. Crop the image into a square and resize it, making it 256x256 or 512x512.

  6. Save the resized image as .tga and call it the same as your map name, adding _art at the end. so its yourmap_art

  7. Place the new .tga file in your map folder along with the other files that are already in there.

Is there a setting somewhere to set the camera top-down? I can't find it and i don't think I can do that manually =\

-Edit

Nevermind, I found it, its near the middle of the View Menu.

PS: Don't flip the map, I don't know why he tells you to do that

When you hit printscreen, where is the file saved?

Ok I figured it out. You open Gimp, open your worldbuilder, follow the directions above, then right click in Gimp-Edit-Paste.

Of course you all knew that.
