IGN PC: First off, can you give us a general overview of what the Commander's Challenge mode is? How many missions does it incorporate, how does it work, how do you progress through it?

Gavin Simon: Commander's Challenge takes the player through a series of 50 nonlinear missions across the globe. Each mission provides a unique scenario which encourages the player to explore new strategies. The player starts with a dozen or so units per faction comprising a complete, low-tech combat chain. Every mission unlocks a new unit and branches into more missions. Some of the mission we included put the player in these crazy scenarios where we let our imagination run a little wild. You will encounter everything from raining satellites to gigantic bears and an entire army of Yurikos.

IGN PC: Where did the idea for this mode come from?

Gavin Simon: Commander's Challenge was inspired by the classic, fun and fast-paced gameplay of Red Alert 3, its exciting universe, and a slew of interesting scenario ideas we didn't have a chance to explore in the original campaigns. This mode was a great way to combine all those pieces to provide our fans with a huge amount of unique and interesting content. Playing Commander's Challenge to 100-percent completion will easily take most players over 30 hours.

Another big influence was the mode's namesake, General's Challenge from Zero Hour, about which we've always heard great praise from our community. We've tried to expand on that experience in every respect, including more interesting antagonists, more detailed fiction, a world map, record keeping, and of course, many more challenges!

Woo-hoo, Giles is back! He was probably my favourite co-commander! :D

Also, a level with hundreds of Yurikos...? Uh, okay. I thought multiple commandos was a thing of the past...
