Command & Conquer 4 Beta

Version 5.0 Tips - September, 2009

==================================================================

These tips and tricks will give you a basic understanding of how to

play Command & Conquer 4, since this multiplayer Beta test does

not contain a tutorial.

RELEASE NOTES: Multiplayer Beta Rev. 5

==================================================================

THIS RELEASE OF THE MULTIPLAYER BETA (Rev. 5) CONTAINS:

* OFFENSE, DEFENSE and SUPPORT CLASSES.

* AUTOMATCH. Click "Find Opponents" to automatically join a 5v5

game. If you are in queue for more than a minute, the game will

launch with less than 10 players.

* DOMINATION MODE. Capture any of 5 hubs by having a higher

value of units near it then your enemy. If you control more hubs,

your opponent's score will tick down. First to zero loses!

LOOK OUT FOR PROGRESSION (XP), CUSTOM MATCHES, NEW MAPS, AND

MORE IN FUTURE BETA RELEASES.

==================================================================

Tips and Tricks: The Basics

==================================================================

These tips are subject to change as the game evolves!

Deploying into Battle: When a match begins (or if your crawler is

destroyed mid-battle), you'll first be prompted to choose a class.

After clicking on your desired class, use the deploy cursor to

left-click anywhere in your starting deploy zone. The cursor will

turn red if you attempt to deploy outside of your starting area.

This newly-deployed Crawler is your mobile base - see below for

more information on using it to create and repair your army.

* Tip: Be aggressive! Losing a crawler does NOT end the game.

You can simply click the "deploy" button next to the minimap,

choose a class, and get back in the game (with upgrades intact).

Camera control: To move the camera around the battlefield hold

the right mouse button and drag, or press the arrow keys. To

rotate, hold the middle mouse button and drag. You can also move

the camera to a specific location by clicking on the minimap in

the lower left-hand corner.

Minimap: On the minimap (lower left), Nod units are red and GDI

units are blue. Units under your control are a lighter color:

orange if you're Nod, or teal if you're GDI. Crawlers are shown as

larger squares, and unpacked crawlers have a circle around their

icon. Goal structures are the diamond icons numbered 1-5. Goal

structures, like all contested structures, change color to indicate

which faction is controlling them. When no group has control, the

structures are white.

Moving your Crawler: Select your crawler by left-clicking on it.

Then, order it to move around the map by right clicking on the

ground or the minimap where you would like the crawler to go.

When you have a larger army, you can select a group by

left-clicking and dragging a box around several units.

* Tip: You can also select all units by pressing "Q".

Unpacking your Crawler: An unpacked crawler will build and unload

more units for your army, as well as repair anything within

its radius. With your crawler selected, click the "Unpack" button

next to the crawler's picture at the bottom center of the screen

to unpack it. Choosing "Unpack Now" will cause the crawler to

unpack immediately (if there is space); clicking "Unpack at

Location" will allow you to specify where the crawler unpacks.

Building an Army: Once deployed, you can build an army by

left-clicking the desired units in the units pane (lower-right).

If your crawler is unpacked, it will release the units as they

finish. You can also build up to 5 units while your crawler is on

the move - they will be released as soon as the crawler unpacks.

Units built in this way are shown in the Hold, to the left of the

units pane. Each unit has a Command Point cost, and you can only

build up to your CP limit (see "Command Points" below).

* Tip: Units build faster in your deploy zone.

Attacking: Attacking is as simple as drag-selecting a group of

units and right-clicking on a target.

Researching Upgrades: The second tab at the top of the units pane

(lower-right) displays available upgrades. Upgrades have no cost,

but take time to research. The tech tier upgrades (II and III)

unlock higher tier units and make your crawler more powerful.

* Note: If an icon is greyed-out, it may require a tech tier

upgrade to build or you may lack the CP needed.

Building Structures: Defense players will notice a third tab at the top

of the units pane (lower-right), which displays available defensive

structures. These have a power cost in lieu of CP. Power is a

different resource but it functions similarly. Defensive structures

can only be built near deployed defensive crawlers or previously

built outposts, and if a defenseive crawler is destroyed its defenses

go offline. Moving away from a defense will NOT take it offline.

==================================================================

Intermediate Tips

==================================================================

Command Points: Command Points limit the number of units on the

battlefield. Your max CP can only be increased by advancing tech

tiers (it can never be decreased). CP is indicated above the

units pane (lower-right). Every unit has a CP cost, indicated on

its tooltip (hover on a unit's portrait).

Capturing Control Hubs: In domination mode, you will begin to

capture a control hub by placing a higher CP value of ground

units near it then the other team. If a team controls more hubs

than their opponents, the opponents' score will begin to tick

down to zero (defeat). Controlling more hubs makes the score

drop faster.

Reclaiming Control Hubs: When a hub is captured, a rig spawns at

one of its 4 docks. If the hub remains uncontested, more hubs

will spawn (up to 4). These rigs must be destroyed to de-capture

the hub, making it neutral for scoring purposes. After the rigs

are destroyed, the hub can be recaptured as long as you have

more units then the enemy nearby (see above).

Capturing Tech Structures: Tech structures can give you an

advantage on the battlefield. To capture one, right-click on

it with an engineer. Alternatively, tech structures can be

attacked. If destroyed, they will slowly rebuild and become

capturable once more.

Capturing Husks: This will be added with higher tech tiers.

==================================================================

Advanced Tips

==================================================================

Combat Chain Basics: Every unit in your army has an Armor type and

a Weapon type, except the Crawler. This info is summarized by

hovering over a unit's portrait in the units pane (lower-right).

* Gun Weapons are strong against Light Armor (small units).

* Cannon Weapons are strong against Medium Ground Armor.

* Rocket Weapons are strong against Medium Air Armor.

* Beam Weapons are strong against Heavy Armor (large units).

* Blast Weapons are strong against Reinforced Armor (structures).

* The Crawler is equally strong against all Weapons.

Always bring the right tool for the job!

Healing: Engineers and a handful of other units can heal your

army. If they aren't attacking, engineers will heal wounded

units passively. You can also order your engineers to heal

by selecting them and right-clicking on a friendly unit,

including a crawler. Advanced users can prioritize healing with

the guard command by selecting engineers, pressing "g", and then

left-clicking on a friendly unit.

Secondary Abilities: Several units have secondary abilities that

can be used or toggled. When you select a unit with a secondary

ability, that button appears to the right of the unit's picture,

in the center frame. Consult these buttons' tooltips for more

information.

TCI Beacons: Team Command Interface (or TCI) beacons alert your

teammates to situations on the battlefield. To place one, click

the TCI button next to the minimap, and then click on the

battlefield. The beacon is contextual, so clicking an enemy unit

will create an "attack" beacon, clicking a friendly structure it

will create a "defend" beacon, etc.

Using Player Powers: When playing as support, the center

console will display an expandable powers menu. Double-

click a power to select it; only one power per column is

allowable. Selected powers appear in the collapsed

powers tray, and can be clicked and activated like other

unit abilities.

Buffs and Debuffs: This will play a larger role when more

units are added. Currently, the Titan debuffs its target with

–speed and –dodge (indicated by red arrows next to the unit's

health bars). Dodge affects unit accuracy.

==================================================================

End of Notes. Good Luck, Commander.

EDIT: missed first letter, fixed the quote.

Not sure if this is what Nmenth is trying to read, but I thought I could post it anyway.

Thanks for the tip, I was almost having some trouble adapting to the new gameplay mechanic and the worse bit was having new arrangement of hotkeys.
