Cold Fusion Rundown

Raapnaap managed to get in touch with us regarding his maps for Cold Fusion (and some Gamma work, like the new FOI we previewed a while back) so we should be in good shape there after all. Beyond that, pretty much the last thing mapwise for CF that needs to be done is, as far as I know, the fixes to SeaMist.

What's not in Cold Fusion

We've talked about a lot of things recently, and shown off a lot of neat stuff in our blogs. Much of it is Gama content for version 2.0.0 and it won't be in CF, 1.2.0. To keep you on the right page, here's what CF won't change:

  • No tech levels
  • No new units/buildings graphics
  • No new surface effects
  • No new scoring system
  • No Scripts 4

What's actually in Cold Fusion

Here's a list of what Cold Fusion will actually have:

  • Increased AI & player Ore Truck speed
  • Armor.ini fixes, has changes to aircraft armor
  • Hind sports new Heavy Aircraft armor, very strong against small arms
  • Reduced Redeye range/damage
  • Reduced LAW splash radius
  • Rebalanced Mechanic repair rate/amount
  • Reduced Sniper range (around 270m)
  • Increased SVD accuracy
  • Increased Tesla Tank range
  • Increased Flamethrower splash radius
  • Reduced AT mine damage
  • Increased AT/AP mine health
  • Rebalanced AT/AP mine armor
  • Rebalanced Phase Tank health/armor
  • Rebalanced Phase Tank weaponry
  • Increased Longbow rocket speed
  • Incrased LAW rocket speed
  • Reduced Volkov handcannon range
  • Reduced Missile Sub SSM range
  • Reduced Destroyer Stinger range
  • Reduced M60 range (around 70m)
  • Reduced PKM range (around 70m)
  • AA/SAM can now aim below zero degrees (flat)
  • Naval units are now invulnerable right after creation
  • Demo Trucks begin unarmed
  • Tesla Tank and MRJ texture fixed
  • Hind forest texture fixed
  • Tesla Tank and MRJ rerigged, better movement now
  • Ranger has better traction
  • V2 has better traction
  • Artillery has better traction
  • Artillery has new camera settings
  • Reduced M16 volume
  • "Classic" and "Standard" control profiles; F2 vs Y for chat, etc.
  • Replaced & corrected entire string table
  • Replaced "Radio Commands" with new "EVA Announcements"
  • Improved existing building interiors
  • Improved installer/patcher probably
  • Improved launcher
  • Improved font
  • Updated server listings
  • Possibly new scripts updates and fixes for thieves, helipads, demo trucks

Other Things

Many of these changes are things that Gamma will feature once it is released. Because the new strings database is actually ready now, it can be given to those who are willing to translate now; once this is posted, I'll get it out to them. Beyond that, I'm still working on finishing up the Ore Silo, r34ch has some props and things you haven't seen yet, plus we're investigating some adjustments to the scoring and cash earning system. More detail on these things later. Actually if you are interested in translating still, I believe we still need somebody to do German.

...Cold Fusion is of course our "cold fix," sort of an afterthought stop-gap set of balance fixes much after-the-fact; plus new maps that will hopefully satisfy your appetites until Gamma is done and help mix things up a little. Much of it is, beyond obvious fixes to problems Beta had like the Demo Truck devastation, Redeye sniping, poor SVD performance, and M60/PKM amazing ranges... well, changes Gamma was going to bring anyways that we may as well just give you now. Things in Beta pretty much play "well enough" and if we begin backporting too many Gamma changes, Cold Fusion itself would feature creep just as much as Gamma has. And too many changes just don't make sense in a Beta context.

Because Gamma itself has so many core changes to the gameplay that we are not ready to bring over to the Beta environment, things like the Tesla Tank's secondary attack will not be in Cold Fusion. Nor will the changes related to "special damages" like burning, all the unit speed and firing tweaks (ore truck speed being a notable exception), changes to C4, etc. To keep this patch small, it also won't have the graphical updates that you have seen, either. Certain Gamma functionality relies on Scripts 4 code, which is not ready for the public presently and may not be for quite some time; this itself means that particular new 2.0.0 features simply cannot be included in this patch.

Because of these considerations CF won't be anything particularly revolutionary, just a refinement of the Beta gameplay and some new places to experience it :) The best stuff, you will need to wait for Gamma to have.

I'm looking forward to these changes... I'm glad they are doing a mid-patch.
