IMPORTANT! --- In order to play Red Alert: A Path Beyond, you should run the "Red Alert - A Path Beyond Launcher" tool from the Start Menu (or, if you didn't install Start Menu shortcuts, you should run Launcher.exe in the main folder of the game). There, you can create a profile, and sign on to the main, official server by clicking on "Servers", then "RA:APB Official Server", then click the "Play Now!" button in the lower right. If you want to play on another server (or the official one is full), you can go to our website (http://www.apathbeyond.com), which will have information about other game servers. To play on them, run the launcher again, then hit "Add Server" and type in the IP address and port that the new server is running on. If you want to change configuration options, you should run the "Configuration Tool" from the Start Menu (or, if you didn't install Start Menu shortcuts, run APBConfig.exe in the main folder of the game). This will allow you to change the game's resolution, volume, and level of detail. (Some of these options can also be changed in-game, but resolution cannot.) ---- 2. PATCH NOTES ---- v.1.3 ("Cold Fusion" - December 2009) --- --- Balance Changes: --- -Shotguns' primary fire is more accurate and fire more pellets -Computer-controlled Ore Trucks are much faster than before -All Ore Trucks regenerate health more quickly -All helicopters (especially Soviet Hind helicopters) take less damage from small arms fire -Range and damage done by the Redeye SAM (Allied Rocket Soldier AA weapon) has been reduced -Medium Tank range reduced -Mechanic rate of repair has been reduced -M60, Ranger, APC, and PKM weapons (heavy machine guns) have reduced range -SVD Dragunov sniper rifle is more accurate -Tesla Tank has improved range -Missile Sub and Destroyer have decreased range -Volkov's primary hand cannon has decreased range -Both anti-tank and anti-personnel mines are harder to destroy -Damage done by anti-tank mines has been reduced -Splash damage radius of the LAW rocket (Allied Rocket Soldier ground weapon) has been reduced -Splash damage radius of the Flamethrower has been increased -Flamethrower projectile is now affected by gravity -Phase Tank armor improved -Phase Tank missiles fire faster, travel faster, turn more quickly, but deal less damage -Demolition Trucks now begin unarmed; they will not violently explode until a driver has entered them for the first time -Fixed graphical error on the Hind helicopter -Fixed geometry issue on the Tesla Tank and Radar Jammer that would cause them to get stuck in certain locations -Artillery camera has been moved back to allow for easier shooting -Missile Sub and Destroyer range has been reduced -Mobile Radar Jammers have had their range increased --- Map Changes: --- -RA_AS_Seamist map changes: --Soviets have many more Flame Towers for base defense --Neither team begins with helicopters but they can now be purchased --The hills are now climbable --Allied reinforcements take longer to arrive --You drown if you fall in the ocean -RA_Bunkers changes: --The Allied base has been rearranged slightly to even out Ore Truck dump times -RA_ClassicZama changes: --The bridge across the river is now indestructible --The river can now be forded by vehicles -RA_ClassicFjord changes: --Both bases have fewer defenses -RA_Complex changes: --The map actually works again!!! --All base defenses have been removed --Vehicles can now cross the ice river --Advanced Power Plants have been replaced with Radar Domes -RA_KeepOffTheGrass changes: --Allied base has new defensive layout with fewer Turret blind spots -RA_Metro changes: --Map now has minor base defenses -RA_Pacific_Threat changes: --It works again!!! --Soviet Ore Truck field is now in a much less vulnerable location -RA_Ridge_War changes: --Soviet base defenses have been rearranged to cover base entrances better --- Misc. Changes: --- -M16 firing sound is softer -Tesla Tank and Shock Trooper beam spread has been negated -Elevators in the War Factory and Advanced Power Plant have been replaced with stairs -The elevator in the Ore Refinery now has a hatch that closes when the elevator is on the ground floor v.1.2 ("Beta Patch 2" - December 2007) --- -New map: RA_AS_Seamist -Removed map: RA_Complex for rebalancing -Rocket Soldier's LAW splash damage now has a greater effect against infantry -Rocket Soldier's Stinger replaced with Redeye SAM, which fires faster, more powerful missiles -Longbow rocket damage increased slightly -Hind gun changed to 25 rounds/clip, now fires a large stream of bullets -Hind's camera changed to allow better target acquisition (especially in front of and under it) -Burn damage caused by primary fire for shotguns is applied faster -Fixed problem with Heavy Tank geometry -Fixed lighting issues on RA_StormyValley, RA_Bonzai -Mine limit upped to 50 from 30 (both teams) -Fixed problems with Helipads and Service Depots still functioning after being destroyed on certain maps -Point system altered; buildings now give 2 points for every 5 points of damage dealt (was previously 1:1); buildings no longer give extra points to the person who dealt the final blow when destroyed -New explosion effect for V2 rockets -RA_Wasteland now has a small contingent of vehicles -Tesla Coil damage increased, reload time increased -Accuracy for Remington 870 secondary fire (slug shot) improved -Accuracy of handheld LMGs (M60, PKM) decreased, accuracy of mounted LMGs (Ranger/APC gun) increased -Launcher frontend tool replaces old apbip and configuration tools -Launcher frontend tool supports multiple versions out-of-date patching v.1.1 ("Beta Patch 1" - October 2007) --- -New map: RA_ClassicFjord -Increased damage for Rocket Soldier, Light Tank and Medium Tank -Fixed problem where anti-cheat system would get false positives -Fixed extreme performance issues on startup -Grenadier grenades can now be thrown to explode after approximately 4 seconds (secondary fire) v.1.0 ("Beta" - September 2007) --- -Five new maps: RA_Bonzai, RA_Complex, RA_PacificThreat, RA_StormyValley, RA_Wasteland -Helicopters now take more damage from light machine guns (M60, PKM, mounted M60s) -New infantry: Sergeant (Allied)/Starshina (Soviet); shotgun-wielding infantry -New units: Allied Mobile Gap Generator (cloaks nearby friendly units, blinds nearby enemy units), Allied Phase Tank (invisible assault tank) -New building: Gap Generator (same effect as Mobile Gap Generator, but larger radius) -Money is now required to repair vehicles at a Service Depot -Vehicles can now be sold at a Service Depot for half their cost -Snipers now have unique scopes -Rocket Soldier now carries two rocket launchers, one anti-tank and one anti-air -New models for: Allied Rifle Infantry, Rocket Soldier, Sergeant, Starshina, V2, Tesla Tank, Hind, Longbow, Ranger, APC -All vehicles now utilize normal and specular mapping -Speeds and physics of all vehicles tweaked slightly -Spies now have a multitude of abilities, check the manual for details -Thieves now steal half of all Soviet funds if they enter the second floor of a Soviet Ore Refinery or get close to an Ore Silo -V2 now fires rockets in an arc as opposed to a straight line (alt-fire allows for a much sharper arc than primary fire) -Mammoth Tusk missile splash damage reduced -Turret fire rate increased ---- 3. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ---- In order to play Red Alert: A Path Beyond, the following system is required: Pentium III 500 Mhz or equivalent RAM: 128 MB Video Memory: 32 MB Hard Drive Space: 900 MB In order to play the game at full detail (but with shaders disabled) the following system is recommended: Pentium IV 1.5 Ghz or equivalent RAM: 512 MB ATi x600 or nVidia 5 Series In order to play the game with shaders enabled, the following system is recommended: Pentium IV 2.5 Ghz or equivalent RAM: 1 GB ATi x800 or nVidia 6 Series ---- 4. PERFORMANCE TWEAKS/GRAPHICAL ISSUES ---- If you are having performance issues, you can turn off shader options individually or completely by using the "options" in the launcher utility. Shader effects are present in the Special Effects pane of the utility. If you are having strange graphical issues, try checking the "Force SM2 Shaders on SM3 cards" option, which will switch to an older algorithm for shaders which may be more compatible with your card. If you notice that you have severe issues when looking at cloaked units, uncheck "Enable Refraction Effects". If you are having performance issues in general, uncheck "Shaders Enabled" which will enable all shader and post-processing effects. This typically boosts performance by a large amount, but at the cost of graphical quality. High-quality shadows shouldn't need to be disabled except on very old computers that barely meet the minimum requirements. If performance issues still persist, try adjusting the geometry and texture detail. You can find out more in the General Discussion portion of our forum at http://www.apathbeyond.com/forum --- 5. USING THE LAUNCHER TOOL --- The new Launcher tool gives you a quick way to join games, configure your graphics/sound, and view your stats. - 5.1 Adding a new profile - In order to play, you will want to create a new profile, which you can do by clicking on the small Configuration button with the vertical bars on it in the bottom-right corner of the launcher window. Click on "Change Profile", then right-click in the window that appears and click the "Add" option. You will be prompted to enter a new name. You can then switch to that profile by double-clicking on it. - 5.2 Connecting to a server - Once you have set up your profile, you can connect to a server by double-clicking on one of the servers listed in the main launcher window. Servers can also be added to this window, but you will have to provide the IP address and port. Once you have done this, click the "Play" button on the window that appears. - 5.3 Viewing your personal stats - Current statistics are not shown in the launcher as they are being prepared. In the future, you will be able to view your kills, deaths, points, match statistics, and medals. Currently you can view your stats for the official server at http://apb.mp-gaming.com/ --- 5.
