Zero Hour online play not working

Recommended Posts

Guest RedRock

I recently bought Zero Hour and I am very dissapointed because there seems to be some bug that will not let me play online. Every time I try to log into Zero Hour online, I get an error message that says something like, "Could not connect to C&C Generals Zero Hour Online." I'm pretty sure its not my fault, because I can still play the unexpanded generals online. What is going on? I want to start kicking ass again!

I think you may have to contact EA Tech Support about that one.

Its a strange problem since you can connect to Generals Online but not Zero Hour Online :?

Could be a firewall problem? Maybe you've opened up some ports for Generals, and you have to open the same ones for Zero Hour as well?

Well, I have tried reinstalling. That didn't work.

I do not have a firewall.

So, I contacted tech support. If I find out an answer, I will post it here.

Thanks newayz for the tips.

I figured out what the problem was.

I only know that this problem/solution works for windows XP, but it could work on other systems too.

Generals stores the IP address information in options.ini. This file is stored in My Documents/C&C Generals Zero Hour Data/. When Zero Hour is installed, for some reason it only puts the correct options.ini file in the same user that Generals was installed in.

So, the problem can be fixed in one of two ways:

1) Only play Zero Hour online in the same user that Generals was installed in.

2) Copy the options.ini file in the user that Generals was installed in into the user that you would like to play zero hour in.

I hope this fixes any connection problems that anyone may have.

I've seen this before :)

But for me it was singleplayer and the cause were several damaged files in my Zero Hour installation (bits were flipped randomly and stuff like that).

But it could be a sync problem too, though it would be wise to check if all files are correctly installed first (no easy way to check that though, EA should make a tool for that).
