Windows XP cannot read Blu-ray discs

Recommended Posts

Recently my dad bought us a LG 10x Blu-ray writer with 3D playback support (manufactured this year under the model BX10LS38 which has no drivers from the LG website). It works well for Windows 7 and it also works on Windows XP but it is only able to read/write CDs and DVDs and not Blu-ray discs. I tried looking for answers but the problem is that there is no driver for Windows XP SP3 (in which I am using right now) that can read Blu-ray discs.

The only clue I got is a UDF Reader 2.5 but that is only recommended on Toshiba Blu-ray and/or HD DVD drives because it was created by Toshiba themselves. As for the latest version of Nero InCD, I highly doubt if that software can read Blu-ray discs under Windows XP. Is there a recommendation of a UDF software or driver that can read and/or write Blu-ray discs under Windows XP SP3?

Because of funky jazz, BluRay doesn't work properly under Windows XP and I cannot find a reason why this is the case nor any reliable fixes. You'll need software for playback like PowerDVD and a dedicated piece of software for reading and burning. I found UDF Reader that's for XP so you might give that a run since it's freeware at least.

Hmmm. One day I couldn't make WinXP read Blu-ray discs, but after installing a driver (from UDF Reader 2.5), XP can now read Blu-ray discs but still is showing "DVD-RAM Drive" as the name of the Blu-ray writer.
