How do you feel about Renegade mods Changing Engines?

Recommended Posts

As you may have seen in the news updates on the main page of CNCNZ.com two of the larger Renegade mods, Renegade Alert and C&C Commando, have announced plans to change to the Half-Life 2 Source engine.

Do you think this a good or bad thing. Should theses mods continue using Renegade or move on to much improved Half-Life 2 Source engine?

Well I believe that Renegade Alert should be completed on the Renegade engine to the best of the team's ability until the switch engine.

It doesn't bother me which engine Commando comes out as I'm not that excited about it - there seems very little prgress being made.

Obviously there are limitations on every engine, but I think that once someone's comitted to a game engine, they should stick with it 'till it's reached a stage that can be called complete.

The Renegade Alert team have informed the community that the Engine Switch will not be made until Renegade Alert is completed to at least version 1.0.

Changing Engines isn't a bad thing in my opinion. People want to continue making C&C first person shooters, and will do in the future. I believe that a First Person perspective of C&C is perhaps one of the fresh and best things to of happened in a long time. It's now an intergral part of gaming, C&C was an RTS and now it's also a FPS in many people's eyes...

Since Renegade's Engine has vast limitations, it's now time to consider bigger and better engines to get the job done... I personally can't see a Renegade 2 coming out in a very long time, and people are not going to want to use it's engine forever... So this is just evolution in my eyes.

Yeah changing engine would be a reasonable idea I suppose. I might actually play it that way.
