Has Valve distanced themselves?

Recommended Posts

When Half-Life came out in 1998, it was the best PC game of all time. When Half-Life 2 came out in 2003-2004, it was overrated and overwhelming. It ruled PC gaming until Bioshock shocked the world in 2007 with unreal ratings. And now, GTA V has owned every game universally on the PC, even consoles.

When Deus Ex came out in 2000, it was the new Half-Life sort of game that meets The Matrix and the future of technology. To this day, Deus Ex is the kind of game that Half-Life should have had. With Deus Ex 4 in development, Eidos is still using the orange color that applies not only to the environmental setting but also the logo of the game as well since Human Revolution.

When Half-Life 2 came out in 2003 on international markets, Steam was born a year later where Valve was criticized for the use of their new anti-piracy methods of current and future gaming software. But Steam to this day, is Valve's best success, and still a slow train cloud platform compared to Origin, Battle.net and Desura.

Plokite was still right about one thing. Too bad Valve still can't count to 3 because they haven't really tried successfully to develop and release a third game of any kind of game involving HL, L4D, Portal, Team Fortress and now Dota. Not even HL2 Episode Three. They still continue to make experiments on other content to the Source Engine and other graphic adaptations, but none have yet to be merged to develop one epic game. Almost every other game developer knows how to count to three by developing a third game of a series. But Valve to this day, the developers have gotten older and they are probably aggravated on developing better and longer games.

The question: Has Valve distanced themselves to keep a low profile for too long? Are they getting aggravated by the fans who wanted a new game with the number 3?

Half Life 3 is going to suck.

There is just way to much hype surrounding it, that no matter what they do, it won't live up to it.

They're screwed. :P

There's nothing illogical about Valve keeping a relatively low profile (considering their popularity and position in the industry). They don't need to release any new games, hence why there's no need to hype up the world with any promises that they might fail to fulfill.

Unlike almost every other developer, they aren't forced to announcing new titles. They have the economy to iterate on their projects for years without having to let out a word. They can wait until the time is right.
