Guest Mr.B Posted October 12, 2003 i'm sorry to say that i believed that AMD cpu's were the ultimate gaming cpu's i had one i used one and i conquered it, the story, my comp was on overnight downloading (i have done this a number of times) then it randomly restarted (i had this problem with my ME machine it was ram) so i replace it, it still restarts itself, so i reinstall windows, "Please restart your computer to continue setup". so i do and then there is no BIOS recognition (the single beep when u start a comp) so i gutted it and tried again, still nothing, so now i have to replace the cpu, mobo, and ram, and that cost 1300. i just had to vent this, but if u are interested in what the system specs WERE: Gigabyte GA-7NNXP, AMD 2800+xp, kingston 512 mb single stick, maxtor 120gb hdd, quantum 14.3gb hdd, Thermaltake Xaser III with 7 fans mind u. gf4 mx 440 updrade to a 9800 pro in 2 weeks. but yes i did rip out the mobo and cpu and the cpu had split in half from the heat, but its got me stumped, with 7 fans running 3 sucking in air and 4 blowing out. but if u can explain this then go ahead. Sonic 296 Posted October 12, 2003 I've had AMD CPU's in my last 2 computer, no problems for me with AMD. So the restarts you have been getting were most likely due to over heating, don't those Thermaltake Xaser case come with the fancing monitor thing on front for checking CPU, case temps etc......? You could have used this to monitor the problems. So you had 7 fans running 3 sucking in air and 4 blowing out, thats fine but was the computer in a well ventilated area? Did you give it decent airflow. You can have all the fans you want but you need somewhere for an air intake. Share this post Link to post
Guest Mr.B Posted October 13, 2003 yeah it was a pretty ventilated area and the digital thermometer that it had on it worked fine for the first 4 months then the temp went all over the place from 35 to 50 degree's and my thought was yes it was overheating as well so i shut it down turned it off and left it off for a full 24 hours and started it up again still same issues. but still i got a replacement board but i got a intel board as well for the pentium 4 so if anybody wants the replacement i'm sure something can be worked out. osey 2003 0 Posted October 13, 2003 well maybe the thermal paste that holds your Heatsink/fan onto the processor chip wasnt applyed properly or the heat sink was to big and heavy that it snaped your chip :!: I have AMD xp 3000+ and i had no trouble since i got this pc and my last pc had AMD xp 2400+ and it never broke Share this post Link to post
Guest Disposable Hero Posted October 13, 2003 Running a XP2600+ on ASUSA7V8X and a 9700pro for 8 months now with a single case fan without any problems.... So maybe it isn't such a good idea to blow the hot air (that your PC just blew out) back into your PC :?:   1+1=..... Share this post Link to post
Guest Dragonne{TRIAD} Posted October 13, 2003 Never had a problem with any Intel chip. I still have procs back to P133 that work like a charm. Never needed special or extra cooling until the NVidia cards started heating up. I just added a cyclone slot fan next to the vid card. Along with the PS fan and case fan, 33°C steady proc temp, 28°C system. Share this post Link to post
Guest Mr.B Posted October 14, 2003 we will see what the verdict is on what actually happened, so i will keep u updated and then we will see who got the correct guess, friday is the judgement day, but yeah i have never had problems with pentiums either, so i think i will stick with what i have found works. Guest Mr.B Posted October 18, 2003 verdict was a faulty mainboard so the chip works fine, and i take back any accusations i made about amd, anyway off to make a 2.02 ghz file server, lol Share this post Link to post
DeadEye 0 Posted October 18, 2003 I have an AMD 2400+ XP, with an Asus A7N8X D'lux mobo, never any probs. I aslo have 512mb Kingston DDR RAM, gf4 ti4200 128mb, 20gig Maxator 20gb HDD, Win Xp Pro. Im currently saving up for a new psu (im on 200~240 at the moment, but adding new stuff to my pc soon.) - a 480watt ThermalTake PSU ALso getting another stick of 512mb, and another cold cathode or two + a 40gb HDD. (All nicely in a Lian Li case ) But yer, enough of me hijacking the thread. GJ on getting it working again Did you get a refund on what you paid? Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted October 18, 2003 nah, they just sent a replacement board, but yes dont buy gigabyte boards they are no good, and dont buy a thermaltake psu, the fans dont put out enough force to cool it down quick enough, better off with energmax psu Share this post Link to post

Guest Posted December 6, 2003 yes i did rip out the mobo and cpu and the cpu had split in half from the heat, dont take this wrong but mayhapse did you possibly crunch the cpu when installing the fan... I have heard that the dies are rather delicate and some of the heatsinks tend to break them... cant remember the modles... Share this post Link to post
