quitegonegin 0 Posted November 11, 2025 The Covert Operations was released in 1996, a year earlier than the Windows port C&C95 in 1997. So were you ever able to play the expansion in SVGA on Windows, or was it only playable on DOS in 320x200? Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted November 11, 2025 It's supposed to work with the C&C95 version. 1 Share this post Link to post

I have the CD version which seemingly only contains DOS binaries. (Which don't run with Wine, which is what I'm using to run my C&C95.) It's been a long time... and I don't remember what I did back then on my actual Windows 95 PC. I feel like I did play the expansion in SVGA, too. But then I found this: Quote As stated on the Command & Conquer Overview page there were two version of the original Command & Conquer released, however only one version of the Covert Operations mission was released, the DOS version. From: https://cncnz.com/games/command-conquer/covert-operations/ So you're saying the DOS binaries (if I can get them to run) will run in SVGA? Plok 327 Posted November 12, 2025 It means no specific Windows version of Covert Operations was actually compiled. C&C95 just knows what files to look for to enable Covert Operations content. 1 Share this post Link to post

That sounds great So I guess that means if I can get the (DOS) installer from my The Covert Operations CD to install into my existing (Windows) game folder in Wine, C&C95 will show the expansion? I will have to try that... Share this post Link to post
quitegonegin 0 Posted November 14, 2025 Yes, you were right! 🎉 Using INSTALL.EXE (the DOS installer from The Covert Operations) via DOSBox (within Wine) simply copied 4 relevant files LOCAL.MIX, SC-000.MIX, SC-001.MIX, SPEECH.MIX from the expansion CD into my game folder. Running C&C95.EXE now shows a new menu item for the expansion missions. Thank you very much for your help! Share this post Link to post
