Redalert 2 and YR on new system XP

Hi guys, i wonder if you could help me out.

I have recently built a new PC running on XP, P4 2.4 512 Corsair xms3700

Graphix is a Ati radeon 9800 128mb ddr pro...

 

the problem : I have installed all my driver etc.. i then decided to install the beloved RA2 and YR however once installing them , i try and play.. it loads up with a black screen and about 2 seconds after it just goes back to desktop.. If you have any ideas or solutions that i could try, i'd be very grateful my email is [email protected]

First thing to try would be installing the Yuri's Revenge 1.001 patch. Get the from http://www.cncnz.com/files/yuri/patches.shtml

Thanks for the suggestion but it still does it.. the only thing the patch did was give it an extra 2 seond wait at the black screen.

wierd someone else had that problem, its supposed to be something to do with XP I think

 

I had no problems though with XP....

 

wud right clicking to the properties of the exe and changing the compatibiliy to another mode help?

Setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98/Me never hurt any program.

One thing to check for is that your logged in to Windows XP as an administrator.

ok well i definitly know that i am the admin.. coz i am the only user i will try changing the compatibilty and things u have said but.,. i still have the feeling of doubt it isnt going to work .. thanks again guy if u have any other ideas please post

Yup i was right, no success still. it is like i have a PC game curse lol, my Counter strike 1.6 doesnt work either it keeps me hanging when i load it :S ... Why me god.. Why me!

If your having problems with other games then there must be somthing strange going on with your system.

Hey guys just to let you know i've found the solution and here it is if you need to Tell it to other people, it was a very simple matter of the compatibility and stablity on Xp and Yr and RA2 so all you need is to download Service pack 1 for the XP system

I would have never thought have installing SP1....but now that I think about SP1 does include heaps of program compatibility fixes for Windows XP.

THKS TO KOEN for the tip AND DNX9DEATH for settin dis post, as i have been very frustrated at trying to get my Yuri's revenge running on XP. I have tried everything under the sun to fix it but stil got the black screens. I've tried changing different versions of DirectX and also reinstalled the games several times and apply all patchs in different wayz!

Well jus to put thingz short changin the Compatibility mode of the Shortcut icon to win98/me workz wonders!

Hey, i have the same problem too, but my problem is that im running win2k, so i have the exact same problem, but i dont think theres a compatiblity mode for win2k so there isnt a solution for me yet .

 

help plz anyone

I encounter delays after giving a command - the screen and voice take about 4 or 5 sceconds to catch up every so often. I'm running XP SP1, 2.6 intel 1gb ram and asus 9560/128mb v/card - was rthe same problem on my old system, but never happened with W98. I noticed that this only happend after I install patch 1.006 or Yuri's revenge. Patch 1.004 runs fine under XP.

Same problem here, have reinstalled XP dozens of times due to other problems, never once worked, everything else works awesome, FINALLY in harmony, infact this game is why I did dual boot with 98SE which caused some of the headache for me needing to reinstall everything loads of times. I also have a friend where he can't even get the system to recognize RA2 is in the drive, any help? I still can't get RA2 to work on my windows xp, I have tried all the things mentioned here already.
