Check that your CD's are dirty, scratched etc

Close all non-essential background apps, and disable antivirus & crash guard proggies for the install......

but yeah..... if all else fails, get your CD's replaced. _b

Well, it could be that the installer itself is getting hungup because the installers resident files on your comp are on the different partition to the Generals files?

Just wondering........otherwise I'm nearly all out of options =/

Oh, that happened to me: all I had to do was run the setup.exe from the CD manually...you can't use the autorun install shell.

If that doesn't work: check your drivers for everything. XP hates a lot of things.

I took the cd to my brother in laws thinking that maybe it was the cd. However it installed straight away(to my frustration!). Have uninstalled and reinstalled Generals countless times, so am patiently waiting to see how post unfolds :)

Did you say you were going to reboot your PC in a few days :S?

InstallShield installations really appreciate it if you reboot after using one of them... it never hurts to try it anyway.

Rifter, you said in an earlier post that you have Generals installed on a different partition. If the setup is failing at the CDKey part maybe its something to do with when it checks to see if you have Generals installed. Since you have it on different partition the Zero Hour setup can't find it so it crashes.

Hi Sonic. I don't think that's the problem though as with my setup it's not partitioned.

Same problem here.

Bah etc.

(XP, 768Mb, GeForce Ti4400, plenty of direct X)

Tried it in both my DVD and CDRW drive, after numerous reboots, with the second monitor on and off, after an XP auto update and wiggled the drive connectors about a bit.

Off to find more things in my PC to poke at....

The EA site says this about this problem btw...

Hello,

This seems to happen with certain graphic card drivers. Updating graphic card drivers tends to help. Go to the computer manufacturer's site or the graphic card manufacturer's site and get the latest driver. If you close background tasks and start the installation again, the installer should get to the screen to enter the serial number and you can install normally, although we suggest installing new graphic drivers first.

For Windows 98/ME

To do this, hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called "close programs". The only two applications that you want listed here before running or installing the game are "explorer" and "systray". Close all other programs by double-clicking on them. You will need to repeat this process after closing each application. Note some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.

For Windows XP

To do this, hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called "Task Manager". You will then see 5 tabs; Applications, Processes, Performance, networking, and Users. Select the Processes tab; this will list all current programs that are running. Close all programs that have your login ID next to them. Your user ID is listed in the second column next to the program name. For example here is a portion of what you should see;

Image Name User Name Session ID

Explorer.exe Owner 01

The Image Name column is the name of the programs currently running. The User Name column is where you will find your User Name. The best way to check this is to locate "Explorer" and see what it says under User Name.

Also, do not close any applications that say "System" next to them. Be sure not to close a program labeled "Explorer" or "Taskmgr" as well. You close each one of these applications by clicking on each one and hitting the button "End Process". Note some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.

However, to me this reads like a holding pattern response, and can be translated as follows....

Hmm, dunno, you got us stumped, here look at this shiny thing while we think of a better answer.
