Wow... this was really realistic...

If you all remember, in world war 1, the fighting usually consisted of just running across a field, and usually getting shot. People never really gained land, and people never really lost land... So, I thought, why not compare that to todays tactics.

I first made a map that was a pretty good simulatory field. I put Sand in the middle, and ore to slow soldiers down, and I put tents on the outside of the field to make a "trench".

Then I modded the game to not allow for building of anything past a barracks, and I allowed only 3 artillery buildings.

So, you could only build these, to make it realistic:

Unlimited GI's and Conscripts

5 maximum dogs.

Unlimited Engineers (what could they do, anyway?)

Power Plants

and Barracks.

3 Sentry Guns modded to have GrandCannonBall (artillery)

Then I modded the tanks you start with to not have any weaponry, and the'd just serve the purpose of running over soldiers, and they were strengthened to make only the artillery have some affect.

Then, I used it in battle. I swear, the game literally lasted 2.5 hours, and in the end, we came to a draw, because NOBODY had gotten anywhere.

We both had a wall of soldiers, and when one group would progress, they'd get pummeled by artillery, and by waiting GI's...

The ore in the middle, also stopped basewalking, and prevented artillery from getting to the other side, so that also helped lengthen the game.

In the end, my enemy (ironically being Germany) could not stay online, so technically I won, but if he could stay on, it would go forever...

This proves, that no matter how you plan, whether on paper, in real war, and even on a computer, running across a field will get you nowhere...

(too bad there weren't any bayonets :P )

 Wow...that's pretty damn crazy man.

Hahaha...INFANTRY RUSH!

Seriously though, that's pretty impressive. You should do it again just to confirm it, ya know, likea little science project or something.

*demands that the Editing Source has this for download*

No really, it sounds ****ing great. It could be a great addition for the re-launch.

Well, see, the only problem is, I did it all with TibEd... I am still plain confused on all the other utilities, because I haven't taken the time to learn them...

I guess if anyone wants to take the work themselves, they can, otherwise, I need to start learning...

I know you have RA2 fen, so I was wondering if we get the time, if you want to take a look at it, and we can battle with it online...

lol.. Sounds kinda interesting..

Of course the whole 2 hour play time and no obvious winner could cause problems... Maybe a timer or something. Most kills wins... ;)

Odd... somebody was asking about this on another site a couple of days ago. I told them I'd help since it's a pretty simple concept. Years ago we did this and had a blast. I'm surprised of it's popularity as of recent.

Send me your changes and I'll put it on the map itself. It won't take me long... Hell, you could even do an entire set... :P

All I did is make the two ore refineries have a tech level of -1 (so they couldn't be built), and did the same with tesla troopers.

I changed the sentry gun's weapon to grand cannon ball, and gave it to both sides, and made it's prequisite barracks.

And I just limited some numbers. That's about it.

I'd send you the ini file, but I'm not at my normal computer right now.

There's a problem though... this editing doesn't seem to affect the AI... they can still just build whatever the hell they want.

You need to change the tag AIBuildThis= to no. Do this for certain buildings you don't want the AI to build. Most likely they should obey this. But since they are scripted, I don't really know.

Yeah, only problem is, people aren't all that interested, because there is low tech.... it will probably stay that way until I learn how to make the units look the way they did years ago too...
