Error: Failed to join - the game is a different version

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

First, I didn't know wether I should've posted this in this forum or in the Tech Support forum, sorry if it's in the wrong forum.

Second, I got a little problem with C&C Generals (not Zero Hour); I never played online and I though that it would be fun to try, so I tried today. Unfortunately whenever I try to join a game I get the error "Failed to join - the game is a different version". I just checked for updates and no updates were found (I updated the game some days ago).

I'm running on WinXP on a NAT-Router. I opened the ports mentioned in Generals's readme.

Thirdly, I do not know wether this is the same problem, but whenever I login to the online 'gameroom' (or however this is called) I get an error: "Could not connect to the persistent storage server", but I do not know what this means.

I would really appreciate it if any of you could help me :D

Thanks!

I already selected "Send Delay", because it was necessary for LAN-gaming. Anyways, I just unselected "Send Delay", refreshed the NAT, tried online gaming again, without result. I selected "Send Delay" again, and refreshed the NAT again, but still it's not working...

Thx for your help, but it still isn't solved :(

did you patch it using the updater ingame or did you download and install it manually. because if you did it manually there are a few things you may need to do

EA Tech Support

After installing the patch manually you may have to delete the Options.ini file.

Select Start, then click on My Documents.

Open the Command and Conquer Generals or Zero Hour Data folder. Whichever we are updating

Delete the Options file.

Restart the game.

Also make sure the patch folder is empty after patching is done.

Double click on My Computer then on the C drive.

Choose Program Files then double-click on Command & Conquer Generals or Zero Hour

Open patches. Make sure this folder is empty.

i used this too as i did it manually but i was assuming you did it with the updater
