Online servers for CNCG not working...

this message appears everytime i try to enter CNC Generals online:

 

CANNOT CONNECT

Unable to establish a connection with Command and Conquer Generals Servers. Please check your internet connection.

 

I have never been able to connect CNCG online before. I am pretty sure i turned my firewall off for the game but may have enabled the wrong application to access the internet. i have a cable connection and use the internet all the time so there isnt anything wrong with the connect in that sense.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter???

Is your Cable Connection connect directly to your computer, or does it run through a Hub/Switch/Router first? Router's usually have a built-in NAT firewall, and so you'll have to open some ports on it and tell Generals which ports are open to be able to play.

do you by chance know how to open those ports and tell generals which ports to go through?

They contain all the port settings for Generals etc.....

Thanks Sonic but they did not help, tried them but no success. any other suggestions?
