comander starlin 6 Posted December 25, 2006 hay guys I was wondering about gaming laptops where is the best place to get them in NZ? and for guys else where what is the best gaming laptop you recommend? Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted December 25, 2006 You can get laptops of Dell. They do some kind of gaming version I think. Whatever you do though, don't go through Ascent, they're the king of rip-off merchants, at least most of the time anyway. Check out Pricespy, if you haven't already they have listings on all NZ stores. Share this post Link to post
comander starlin 6 Posted December 25, 2006 my bad forgot about pricespy, but yeah just any idea will be sweet Share this post Link to post
comander starlin 6 Posted December 25, 2006 how about a XPS M1710. is that any good? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted December 25, 2006 don't go through Ascent, they're the king of rip-off merchants, at least most of the time anyway. Stop making rubbish claims. Ascent rocks. I've been shopping with Ascent for years and I've never had any problems. Yes they charge a bit more for some stuff but they are not rip-off merchants. Its the excellent customer service that makes me come back to them all the time. Share this post Link to post
comander starlin 6 Posted December 25, 2006 sonic what do you recommend for a good laptop then? Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted December 26, 2006 sonic what do you recommend for a good laptop then? Well it depends on your budget. If money is no object you might as well get the latest and greatest laptop on the market which would cost you around $4000 to $6000.... maybe more. And since you want this laptop for gaming your going to need one with a CPU that has plenty of grunt, and of course a decent video set up. I would seriously consider a kick ass desktop computer for gaming instead. Costs less to build plus if you buy the parts separately and build it yourself to get exactly what you want. For example: (these are approximate prices in NZ dollars) MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-945G-S3, Socket 775, Core 2 Duo, Intel 945G Chipset - $220 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2.4GHz - $530 VIDEO: GeForce 7900 GT 512MB - $580 RAM: 1GB DDR2-800 PC6400 SDRAM - $200 HARD DRIVE: Seagate 320GB Serial ATA - $160 DVD: LG Electronics GSA-4167BBK DVD Writer - $80 MONITOR: Philips 190S7FB Monitor, 19" LCD, 1280x1024, DVI, Black - $500 TOTAL: $2270 Thats just an example though, you can swap around parts, pick different brands, choose a cheaper video card, go with an AMD CPU..... you would just have lots of options for a great computer. To get a laptop with similar specs would probably cost double of that example above. Share this post Link to post
comander starlin 6 Posted December 26, 2006 ok got yah. but going cheap on the video card is not a good option, in order for it to be able to play tomorrow's games eg. DX 10 games. i think it would need to be a bit grunty. and shouldn't i wait for the next DVD creation Blue ray and HD-DVD? Share this post Link to post
F15pilotX 4 Posted December 27, 2006 See, that is why a desktop is such a better option. It is easily upgradeable. Sure, if you travel a lot, a laptop might be better, but if you don't, go for a desktop. Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted December 27, 2006 To play DX10 games you are gonna need a DX10 card and... DX10 cards are just out and the least they cost is around 500 bucks. I don't even think they got mobile versions. Wait till Vista kicks out and more DX10 cards come. (ATi bout to release their, means competition for nVidia and that means lower prices) Share this post Link to post
