RA2 & Yuri Not working in Win2k

Recommended Posts

Guest CapnObvious

Recently I got my new motherboard/ram/CPU. I did what I always do, reinstall win2k.

Now, with my new fully patched Windows 2000 I can no longer play Either. When I start either game, I get a quick flash to a black screen then desktop. (Which is also called a "Crash to Desktop" error). I am fully patched with YR, and RA2.

My specs are:

Processer: P4 2.80c (800 Mhz, HyperT)

Motherboard: Intel 865PERL (865PE chipset)

Ram: OCSystems PC3200 (DDR 400) Dual Channel ram

Operating system: Windows 2000 (Fully patched, I've checked auto update as well just incase)

Video Card: ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 3.10 [Most Recent Driver])

DirectX: 9.0A

Other then RA2/YR I have no problem with any other game. I was able to play both with my old install of Win2k with no problem. The only change from my old system is the motherboard, ram, and processer.

Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe if you try to set the game in compatibility mode to Win95/98? Check the shortcut. I know it has this on XP, in 2000 I had to 'install' this myself so I'm not sure if you'll have it.

Well, I get a error there as well:

MSVCRT.DLL for Win32

Error: MSVCRT.DLL is not compatible with Win32s.

Now I have tried finding it using a old Win98 boot disk (booting into dos) but I am unable to get to the file in dos. I have been able to find it in Windows 2k quite easily, and yes my HDs are formated in Fat32.

In both safe mode, and dos I cant delete the file for one reason or another. The safe mode one being that the file is in use. but I can not use APCOMPAT.EXE because of that DLL as it says.

As my problems stack on top of one another, any one have any ideas?

Edit (4:02 PM PST):

I got that DLL changed to one that supports cross platforms. so APCOMPAT works now. Sad part being that I still can't, even using APCOMPAT, get RA2/YR working.

so the search is still on, still looking for ideas.

As i understand it there is nothing you can do. The problem lies with intel's hyperthreaded processors. I have very similar specs and nothing i have tried has ever work.

Hard Luck
