In your opinion, are crack files or no cd patches necessarily "evil" or "a form of piracy"? This might be a philosophical question, but it's bothering me for a while now... I mean, I buy original software (humor me here), but I often try to look for a no-cd patch or use Daemon Tools because I get tired looking for the CDs...

No-CD cracks are not discussible because of the fact that a lot of people are more likely to download them to run pirated or illegally copied software.

 

I'm going to let this topic slide, because of it's harmless nature, but make sure there is no discussion of where this software can be downloaded, along with any other cracks / hacks.

Torrents are the same thing, people who can't afford the bandwidth use torrents to distribute their work. But (lets say) 80% (inaccurate figure) of the torrents that are in the internet are pirated software/games/movies and such.

 

I guess cracks would be still illegal even if you have the original copy, since cracks are "modified" versions of the game. That would be breaking the agreement you made when you installed the game and clicked "I agree".

Oh. Ok. Gee, I never thought of it that way. I just wanted to avoid having to find the cds (and at times they're scratched, so I'm just forced to crack)... But how about Daemon Tools?

 

 

P.S. I've never used a Torrent or P2P software.

I don't really know what daemon does to take off CD protection from games. I think it was emulating or something. Cause I just used daemon tools to mount CD images.

 

But here's a tip, maybe next time you should make a ISO backup copy from the Original CD. Then when you lose your CD or just simply lazy to find it, mount your ISO using daemon tools to play the game.

That's what I do. But sometimes I'm too lazy and I look for a crack or no-cd patch. But I don't have those (at least for now) because I'm using Deamon Tools, so that I can still play multiplay online.

You should stick to that, since its legal, you can still burn copies of the game if you want to and most importanly be able to play multi-player.

 

Cracks would be the last alternative.

Ok. I think we've strayed off topic (at least slightly). I wanted to know what everyone thinks of cracks. It seems to me that majority of people really consider cracks second to pirated software.

Cracks, meh, whatever. I prefer to buy my stuff so I always have it but that's just me.

 

And no CDs? You bet your ass. I get them whenever I can. I bought the game, I'll do as I please for my own personal use.

I use no-CD patches on occasion. I'm a lazy bastard, and my CD's always get scratched or I can't find them. But, yet, I still rock. Amazing, isn't it?

I try to do that. The only problem is sometimes I forget where I place it, or it really is old and scratched (like my Halo: Combat Evolved CD, I'm looking for a vendor that sells an original one)...

most of the games I play don't need CDs and besides that I mostly play TFD so just don't need em
