You mentioned yourself that it looks like the guy off halo. Well, the guy of Halo is called "Master Chief"

As for the Master Chief being the symbol of the Halo series, there are 2 other symbols:

 

The first is the letter "O" that Bungie uses in the Halo logo. It has been used many times, even as a symbol instead of a letter.

 

The second is the symbol or insignia of "Marathon", an older Bungie game (from Mac), and it can be seen on the Easy Difficulty Shield, the Enforcer's Plasma Shields, Captain Jacob Keyes' Pipe (in Halo: Combat Evolved), the hull plating of the Pillar Of Autumn (again in Halo: Combat Evolved), among many other appearances. I won't say the most important one, as it is also a ]BIG spoiler.
