Gben 20 Posted February 20, 2008 I was thinking about the FMV videos recently... in C&C3 there were 3 types of movies... the cgi scenes the story elements the mission briefings IMO, there was a real disconnect between the story progress and the mission briefings... something as simply as costume errors - particularly in the nod campaign. It's an obvious sign that the briefings were all filmed on one day, and story elements with the cast were filmed on another, and I assume were shot before the big scenes with all the actors - in hindsight they probably should have shot them afterwards. The main problem is the energy/continuity from one scene to the other doesn't work. I like the fact that everyone is talking to me or about me, but I also notice that perhaps the story segments could have been better if the plot is not limited to my physical presence... allowing the actors to play off each other, and play with the camera angles This is real evident in the opening sequence of RA2. It's punchy, paced really well, and has good atmosphere... and I'm not there. http://www.ea.com/cncmovies/redalert.html Then the briefings are directed towards you by the first line in the next video. Videos directed to you, could have a simple GUI to indicate you are present, for instance. I'm also thinking that the briefings in the small window on the map work better, and the video should have been played as the new mission is loading, not as a separate video before loading. The decision to add bigger sets in C&C3 also works against them, the screen is too empty, and it would be better to have a close-up. That may be a reflection of actors who read of autocues and cue cards rather than memorizing their lines... and perhaps it could have been better without reading. Acting is always better than reading. Anyway, I was just thinking of ways to improve Live action scenes in future C&C. Even though these changes would already be too late for even RA3. I think it's more than just a scripting issue, but direction as well. Hopefully the crew have reviewed, critiqued, and improved from their C&C3 experience. You how some reviewers say 'this movie didn't do to well at the cinemas, but works really well on the small screen', I think it's that sort of subtlety that needs improve here. My 5cents... (it was 2 cents, but our government phased out 1 cent and 2 cent coins many years ago - so now everything is rounded to nearest 5 cent coin!) Share this post Link to post
