More Evidence for the Victory Games/BioWare Rumours
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Too bad I wasn't a big fan of the original Generals, but this is good news nonetheless, and I hope C&C takes the right route in the future. Though I don't like the idea of Bioware become an EA label, as it will eventually just dilute the name. It's early, but I think we have seen/heard enough for me to wager that these rumours are most likely true.- 21 replies

Is the Next Game Called Command & Conquer: Alliances?
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
They've registered domain names before as Sonic has noted, including generals2, but this is the first time I recall them reserving a name that has never been used by one of their games ("Alliance"). Not just one, but 15. I hope it's not a crossover as that would probably be a deathblow to all the C&C stories, but I doubt it will be. But getting a game called "C&C: Alliances" seems likely to me. -

Rumour: Command & Conquer Dev Attached to EA BioWare Label
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
I am feel this rumour may be true. If EA is making Bioware a label, that means several different studios can all share the same "Bioware" name. Kind of like "EA Sports" and "EA Games" - they're multiple developers put under a single label. I can see why they'd make Bioware a label: it's got a good reputation and there's a lot of folks out there that buy their games just because of the Bioware name. Especially with games like KOTOR, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, and the upcoming SWTOR, which are all high quality. To put this into context, it's worth asking, has Bioware ever created an RTS game? I don't think it has. That definitely adds to the possibility that Victory Games, an EA studio, has been put under the new Bioware label. It's also about time we see something, since this game has been a year and a half in development. Something tells me this is legit, but time will tell. And Sonic right, a series reboot would be best right about now. C&C4 pretty much killed the momentum for Tiberian games, so it's best they don't touch it soon, if at all. A Red Alert game is possible but I think unlikely. I personally was not a fan of the original Generals, because it played too much like Blizzard RTS games, did not have much of a story (other than turn Team America into a video game), did not offer anything new to the genre, and did not have anything incredibly iconic in comparison to Tiberium, Chronospheres, Tesla coils, etc. A complete reboot of the C&C Universe is what's necessary right now - a high quality game with multiple years in development, a huge singleplayer and story, and gameplay that learns from classic C&C games rather than whatever they thought they were doing with C&C4's mechanics. I guess now all we can do is wait.- 23 replies

The Red Alert Mod for Red Alert 3 Released
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
To be honest I don't think the unit designs are that bad. Artistic direction is up to the team and I think every unit in Sonic's post can be recognized easily. I think it's natural that they'll take a few realistic details from real-life counterparts rather than just stick to grainy cinematics from the 90s. I would love to try this out, but unfortunately I gave my RA3 away. -
Apocalypse Rising will have a successful public release in the future. Take it from me

New Renegade X Black Dawn Teaser Screen Shot
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
The current version requires Unreal Tournament 3, but we're working on a standalone version of Renegade X. First there will be a singleplayer release (mini-campaign, about 1 hour long, includes cinematics) which is almost done. We will then make a multiplayer release (standalone) afterwards. -

Victory Games Developing the Next Command & Conquer
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Sounds like a full restart. This is good news, and an extremely critical moment. A full restart is risky but can be rewarding - they will either restore C&C`s glory, or bring it down to hell. I hope they have learned from the disaster that was C&C4. I myself am looking forward to seeing a new C&C universe, a new engine, and a new gameplay mechanic. I hope they are up to the challenge. -
The video won our video contest some time ago, and the maker received a beta key to C&C4 at the time.

So C&C Arena was originally going to be an expansion to C&C3 or an entirely new game? The game looks like it's trying to appeal to casual gamers - "arena" sounds like it's an online tournament, and there doesn't seem to be structures. Probably revolved around a few units and upgrades for doing well. C&C4 probably ended up inheriting some of the game's aspects - since it, too, was kind of like an "arena" game - a point system, no bases, and just a few units battling it out for nodes. Still, this kind of game would've sounded better as an expansion pack rather than the C&C finale. Westwood had Sole Survivor for example.

We'd also like to thank the people who voted Renegade X. Since we can't win the same award two years in a row, we got an Honourable Mention for Best Released Mod of 2010. We appreciate it, guys! And we're coming for best indie next year. -
I remember that mod; the folks at DriReign really put together something special. I never actually played it online, but I'd love to see some of its gamemodes in action.

Catching Up with Aaron "APOC" Kaufman
[NE]Fobby[GEN] replied to Sonic's topic in Command & Conquer News
Great to hear from Apoc. I wish we still had him with us. And hey, I actually liked Star Wars Episode 3! I hope C&C stays on a hiatus for another year or two. I'm sure they'll announce and possibly release a game in 2011, but I think people need enough time to forget about C&C4, and then make a series restart sometime further down the road. Plus, with two more Starcraft expansions coming in the next two years, I think most heads in the RTS world will be turned away from C&C anyway, especially if those two campaigns were of the same quality as the first game. The ideal scenario would be a series restart in two years or more, kind of like how C&C3 ended the earlier hiatus with a bang. I also hope they spend more than 18 months on the next game, which Apoc mentioned in the interview, is barely enough time for a good team. -
