Tencent Tencent Announces A Red Alert Mobile Game, Seems Legitimate
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
Chinese giant Tencent has announced a game for iOS and Android earlier today. It seems to not only be called Red Alert Online, but from what we can make out of poor support for the Chinese language in Google Translate from the official website, it appears that it is actually licensed, unlike the ripoffs we have become used to seeing over the years. This coincides not only with the rumours of a mobile C&C game being in development, but also news from 2015 announcing partnership between EA and Tencent. Your guesses are as good as ours. UPDATE: Reddit user markedge linked to this page, showing that this is a joint project by EA, Tencent and Aiyou Interactive Entertainment, with up to 100,000 players being put on a large map. -
Community News TaxOwlbear Plays Through Red Alert for iOS
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
Having tackled the Java mobile versions of Tiberium Wars, Tiberian Twilight and Red Alert, our well-known YouTuber TaxOwlbear has begun coverage of the last remaining official mobile Command & Conquer title - Red Alert for iOS from 2009. His copy even has the Empire of the Rising Sun expansion pack which was released after the main game, so the game will finally be completely demystified and uncovered for the majority of C&C fans who never got the chance to play it (since it was taken off the App Store years ago). Check this playlist for new uploads every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00 AM CEST. -

"new" -
As some of you may have already noticed, a recent Origin update apparently changed the client's way of operation, which among else rendered Bibber's fixed launchers for The Ultimate Collection useless. This means that other community fixes, parameters and mods won't work with these versions of C&C games. There is currently no solution to this problem, but we will keep you posted once there is.

Help with getting the most of the Ultimate Collection
Plok replied to cwi87's topic in The Ultimate Collection / The First Decade
Otherwise, I'd point you to our guide (wonder why nobody browses to it themselves...) here: https://cncnz.com/features/technical-support-help-guides/fully-updating-the-ultimate-collection/ However, a recent update broke the compatibility of the key factor in setting up The Ultimate Collection - the fixed launchers by Bibber - yet again, so until he or anyone else finds a solution, patching isn't really effective, unless you get the freeware versions of games up to and including Tiberian Sun: Firestorm from CnCNet. -
Red Alert Online Copyright Infringement in Tencent's Red Alert Online
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
On April 23rd, we reported on the announcement of Red Alert Online, a mobile game by the Chinese company Tencent. Early sources spoke of an agreement between Tencent, Electronic Arts and Aiyou Interactive Entertainment, but recent findings put the question mark on the legitimacy of the whole project. From data excavated from the game files, several instances of copyright infringement have been discovered, affecting assets from Blizzard Entertainment, Activision, Games Workshop, and even our very own modding community. Electronic Arts has yet to speak about the game at the time of writing. You can read the investigation piece here. -

C&C - Free to Play GVMERS: Investigating C&C Generals 2
Plok posted a topic in Command & Conquer News
The YouTube channel GVMERS, already known as a team working on retrospectives for games which have past their prime or have been abandoned by their owners, have created a third video related to the Command & Conquer franchise. In this video, they bring us the full sad story of what was originally announced as Command & Conquer: Generals 2, and was later known simply as Command & Conquer, a free-to-play title. @Rabbit and myself provided input and information on the game's development as assisting information, too! -

What, contesting your opinion is illegal now? The issue here is that in every "discussion", you present your thoughts in an extremely agitated way and without much to back it up, like a fanboy saying "what I say is true because I said so, everyone who doesn't agree is an idiot". Your conversational skills are incredibly poor for that sole reason. Tread lighter.

Drop the attitude. You are not an omniscient diety, nor an authority on anything. There we go.
-
Define "many people". AAA doesn't care about that stuff, and indies do hybrids all the time. That's not part of what places them in the RTS or RTT category anyway, so find a better argument.
-
Says only you. This is why Diablo is not categorized as a third-person shooter, nor FIFA a real-time tactics game. Base-free RTS games do not exist. Base building has been present in every RTS to date, especially since all RTSes are built around the first game that we'd firmly and without question call an RTS, and which had that mechanic.
-
That's called Real-Time Tactics, then.

Tencent Tencent Announces A Red Alert Mobile Game, Seems Legitimate
Plok replied to Plok's topic in Command & Conquer News
There are fakes, of course. This is clearly stated to be EA-supported. -
Can you just stop drooling over whatever is the newest fad? No bases, no RTS.
-
Many of these questions are irrelevant to begin with. Setting, resource paintjobs etc. should not be given that much attention as the style of gameplay does. And you can tell how detached from the genre they really are when base-building is a yes/no question
