Nice.

----

I was thinking overnight about the dowload... and why they don't do a pre-release beta with 95% of the installation now. and then when you get the beta key - you can download the final exe or whatever tricky protection thingy-mey-jib they wanted to use.

I may just scrape through my isp throttling by the time it's available for me to download, but it would be nice to know that I could play within an hour rather maybe a day of getting my isp.

If they did that they would give away all the FMV's, the campaign, everything. And the FMV's was more than 50% of everything in C&C3.

They could do it if they encrypted everything (as Valve sometimes do with their preloads), but that would require you to decrypt everything when the game really launches. And I wouldn't be surprised if they're still working with the last CG effects for the FMV's.

If I had Red Alert 3 preloaded in Steam, I could still easily look into its contents with the gcf tool.

Damn, I wish I'd activated my beta key beforehand. Back when Kane's Wrath was released, I think there may have been a problem with the beta site, because it wouldn't allow me to do so. Oh well. :P

Edit: How many people here have been able to play so far?

Only about 2000 and select community site leaders have been allowed in.

shrugs... I don't understand the technical details of what recover and louise have just said... but how is what you've said different to the beta version Saracen and 2000 other people are playing now?

I'm just saying whatever version Saracen is playing should have been available as a partial download for *all* testers, then the beta key would unlock the patch server to download the final 'important' file or key or whatever to start the test.

Perhaps we're misunderstanding each other?
