Duke 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Well the new Guns n' Roses album has been released yesterday finally as the first studio album from GNR in over 10 years! Has anyone else got it? What are your thoughts? I'm working my way through it and will hopefully come up with a review in the next few days. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted November 24, 2008 i saw it released... i didn't bother... didn't slash like, leave god knows how many years ago? i honestly don't even know who is still in the band now because they had so many chops and changes... anyway. i'm a littleeee skeptical about this albulm... mainly due to the fact of the british advertising... they were saying things like "the best cd ever!" and "the best albulm in 10 years" which seemed more then a little arrogant to me... oh, let's not forget the "most anticipated albulm ever!" one xD which i pretty much don't believe at all. until the adverts for it were on the tv i didn't even know they were making a new cd... i thought the band had just split and given up, or just had axl and random people going on tours or something like that o.O; but if it's anything like their older songs i might have to get it. eagerly awaiting your review! ^o^ (note; just gonna check the wiki page on them the second i post this, so don't worry about informing me on the group's status x3; i'd already have known xD) Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted November 24, 2008 I've given it a few listens so far and I'm quite pleased with it. It's got a good GnR feel to it. Even without Slash, the guitar work is impressive and the tracks are all crisp and clean. Overall, it's a good buy. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted November 24, 2008 baw ;-; slash <3 but yah half the tracks on that cd are with buckethead o.o so i'll let it slip. cos buckethead is just epic. i mean he looks like a drunk college prep but he plays... daaaaayum... problem is too many things i have to buy now and in the near future :\ guess i could ask someone to get it for me for my birthday or christmas... ._.; Share this post Link to post
Sonic 296 Posted November 25, 2008 I've given it a few listens so far and I'm quite pleased with it. It's got a good GnR feel to it. Even without Slash Slash wasn't that great. Axl is GnR. I'll give the new stuff a miss, I like some of their old songs from late 80's and early 90's. This is really the new GnR, nothing like old stuff. Share this post Link to post
Duke 0 Posted November 26, 2008 So here we go: My Review. All 1020 words of it. I've never reviewed an album before so tell me what you think? And then Digg it Guns N’ Roses. 17 years after the release of their last studio album we finally have something fresh from one of the world’s biggest hard rock names…ever! Now it may be missing Slash, Duff, Izzy and the original gang that made the hits like Sweet Child o’ Mine, Welcome to The Jungle and Paradise City but who’s to say Axl Rose can’t pull something magical out of his bandanna and surprise us all! I got a hold of the album to find out: The album opens up with the song ‘Chinese Democracy’ and we’re greeted by 30 seconds or so of a nice ambience synth with a few quiet chinese voices. The drums soon start and we’re greeted by a big PHAT AC DC style intro from Buckethead preluding to an air raid type scream from Rose and a big entrance from a second guitar. The features some nice deep backing vocals from Richard Fortus which pads out both the verse and chorus quite well in contrast to Rose’s high screeching. More. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted November 28, 2008 hmm... after reading your quote and the wiki page on them... i'm not too sure. sure, axl can do a lot of good songs but he does kind of sound like an ass. i mean he's fired and gotten into arguments with pretty much everyone at one point or another... axl is the only original band member and the longest any other person in the currant group has been with them was 1990... TheBlackOut 7 Posted November 28, 2008 I'm listening to it right now... it's... kind of boring... plain. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 41 Posted November 28, 2008 It's no Appetite For Destruction but it has its own charms. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 1, 2008 hmm... so generally mixed views about the cd? o.o; might just leave it for now... >>; also i just noticed the typo in the topic title xD Share this post Link to post

Doctor Destiny 41 Posted December 2, 2008 hmm... so generally mixed views about the cd? o.o; might just leave it for now... >>; also i just noticed the typo in the topic title xD No, it's worth it. Give it a few listens. Takes a couple runs but you love it in the end. Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 2, 2008 hmm. oh fine i can look into it. as it is because of mom's money situation and the fact i've passed my 21st this year is gonna be much cheaper present wise. and seriously so by the sounds of it. previous birthday/christmases have resulted in me getting a good £300 or more in presents and money... this year she asked me what i wanted, i showed her a bigass pc case to start off my upgrading. cost maybe £60 or £70 and she said it was too much... so yah, that's depressing. i'm thinking of asking her for some b-movies i want. i'm not sure what to get though... i want creature features and like, giant bug flicks of old... i definately want Them! (the black and white one with the giant ants resulting in the army going into the sewers. cos that movie was just epic. that's the movie that the ant missions in red alert came from xD) there are a few others. tarantula was alright. started off great but it was like they ran out of funding or something. the "final fight" was VERY quick. i mean everything was just taking off with the police shooting at it then fleeing... then all of a sudden jet fighters come down and napalm the critter. really quick "wth?" style end. the giant gila monster was good, and gets a very high notorious status because of the mushroom song (google it. i DARE YOU to watch to the end of it. make sure you watch the clip from the movie. the start of the movie has the little girl with the crutches and the unibrow xD it's so sickeningly sweet, that alone should give you a standard as to how the song is gonna be...) i'm not sure what other movies to have though. behemoth the sea monster was good (gotta love the era weaponary xD) aaaand it came from beneath the sea, and the beast from 20,000 fathoms. those three were epic too. ray harryhausen <3 anyway. so yah, cheap birthday/xmas this year so i might not be able to get it as a gift and i'm working on computer upgrades with my own money ;-; so i can only get this cd if it's REALREALREALLY good. in the meantime, does anyone know any kickass b-movie creature features? (specifically ones with giant bugs but i'm flexable...) old ones are good. old colour is best... the new stuff with cgi i've probably already seen, but if i haven't heard of it or seen it i'll buy it. generally the horror channel shows every new b-movie as it comes out... x3; Share this post Link to post
mormreed 0 Posted December 3, 2008 is it as awesome as 17 years in the making should have made it? Share this post Link to post
Mina Synd 0 Posted December 6, 2008 okie, update on the birthday/xmas situation... a couple of days ago, mom asked me to write a list of everything i want (i already knew that i couldn't get something like a new pc case at £60+ so i figured i'd write a list of cheapish things about the price of a pc game or dvd and she'd pick one or two things from it... i wrote about 8 things. she phoned me up asking for more xD so i'm thinking she might have bought everything and the next lot of stuff are things my aunt's family are gonna get me =O) the GnR's cd was on my first list ^o^ alongside with some stuff i've been lusting over for a short while... Them! - dvd, black and white b-movie with giant ants Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles (1999 TV series) - boxset starship troopers 3 - dvd movie sequel the mist - dvd movie horror the giant spider invasion - dvd movie, 1975 Legendary - PC game (not console, PC) Guns 'n Roses Chinese Democracy - music cd (i know. i'm tacky. and i know, ST3 sucks from what i've heard. but i collect things like this! i need them!) then there is the second list; indiana jones & the kingdom of the crystal skull - dvd movie sharpe's peril - dvd feature length series :3 outpost - dvd horror movie set in a WW2 german bunker dead space: downfall - dvd prequel movie dead space - pc game i inadvertantly stumbled upon outpost and the dead space movie whilst i was in zavvi a couple of days ago... all i have to say is "omi goshi want! o_o" the dead space movie is an anime and has some big name actors voicing in it from what i understood...
