The Tale of Yuriko Campaign Interview

The latest Command & Conquer newsletter has been sent out to subscribers. Inside it features an interview with Red Alert 3: Uprising Senior Designer Jason Torres, he discusses the design methods and new gameplay enhancements in the first ever Command & Conquer action-RPG campaign: The Tale of Yuriko. Here's sample.

 

Is this essentially a C&C Action RPG mission (i.e. Diablo style)? What do you think C&C RTS players will enjoy most from this change of pace?

 

[JT] In theory yes, but it is more than one mission and there are some differences in how the camera controls as well as using abilities that we take more from Red Alert 3 and our own past games like Battle For Middle Earth than we do from an Action RPG. I think C&C players will love the challenge and interesting ways in which they can use Yuriko's powers. Plus the campaign has a cool story, interesting roll-out of background fiction, and a much different tone and feel than player have seen. And if that isn't enough, word on the street is that Yuriko has a short skirt.

 

Fans are constantly asking, is there any relation or "inspiration" derived between Yuri from Red Alert 2, and Yuriko?

 

[JT] Inspiration, certainly. Relation? I don’t think so. Maybe. Probably not.

Uprising has live action FMV just as Red Alert 3 did.

Oh ok then. I'd say there will be. I added some pics of Julia Ling as Izumi to our Uprising gallery. One of them is on the set. So I guess it means there will be some FMV to set up the Yuriko campaign.
