James Hannigan Interview at CNC Saga

[Sonic 300]

Our friends at French C&C fan site, CNC Saga, have posted an interview with composer James Hannigan. He contributed to both the Red Alert 3 and Uprising soundtracks, and is apparently working on the soundtrack for Command & Conquer 4. The interview is actually in French, but thanks to somewhat accurate Google Translator you still make sense of it in English. Here's a sample.

CNC Saga: Some members CnCSAGA love theme Yuriko you composed for Red Alert 3 - The Revolt, can you tell us more about it?

James Hannigan: I really enjoyed creating the theme of Yuriko, with its dense and close harmonies. This is an example of a piece which I hope does not take on elements of the game without bringing nothing.

This means we hear in a game of strategy and action but not a subject full of action or overly excited, but I hope, adds the impression that the universe of Red Alert 3 is an actual place with people inside.

I could create a dynamic Rock or orchestral anthem to get the adrenaline that goes with it, but it was more original and useful to try to stage one of the central characters to add some depth and expand the world and history around Yuriko.

CNC Saga: Can you tell us the story behind the song "Soviet March"?

James Hannigan: It was really fun to create this theme! It was actually the first song that I created on my side. But this was not the one who had a special place in the game early (in other words, it was not related to the gameplay). It became popular and has slowly moved to the position of subject main menu of the game Red Alert 3 (after "Hell March 3" by Frank).
