Moderators and forum rules

Message boards have rules and regulations in order to maintain a happy enviroment. That is a given. And moderators are there to enforce the rules, which is fair enough. What I want to know is what happens when you see a moderator breaking the rules? What do you do? I ask because I came across a message board where the person who built it and runs it acts like a total jerk and breaks the rules he put into place, and was interested to know people's thoughts on the matter.

Forget it and move on. Tell other people who feel the same way you do about a better place, or if you've got the time and space somewhere, set up your own and tell them to go there in stead. They're this other persons forums, there's nothing you can do unless the guy wisens up. You could send the person a pm asking them why the things that are happening are, but if they're truly nuts, they'll just ban you and move on, so the first option is probably best.

That's something I don't get at all. Why would someone enjoy being trashed and abused like what can happen on a message board? But certainly it comes down to common sense...if the moderator's looking for a fight then save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere.

 

While we're on the topic, any message boards to avoid for this reason?

You mean the flamer's zone? I've seen it. Good to have a place where people can freely partake in that sort of nonsense, it keeps it off here. Thankfully it's nothing too rough. There are a few message boards I've seen where the people are utterly mental.

I can imagine. Like that egocrusher who trolled one of the threads on a planned mod. Thankfully such nasties are rare, and there doesn't seem to be any regulars who are like that. Outside of the flame boards at least.

Alot of trash talk happens there, its usually due to Fenring being contested about his knowledge of editing.

I think that the rules are simply to be followed, if you want to register. If some other forum has diffrent rules, then that is up to them.
