Sonic 296 Posted January 9, 2010 Interesting story from Kotaku. All about the average PC gamer's system. http://kotaku.com/5444154/the-average-pc-g...f-december-2009 The Average PC Gamer's Rig, As Of December 2009 Earlier this week, Valve released the latest set of data from their regular hardware survey, revealing just what kind of hardware the average PC gamer is packing these days. Here are the major findings: you prefer Intel systems to AMD, you prefer NVIDIA graphics cards to ATI, and the majority of you now have at least a dual-core system. While it's always fun/heart-breaking comparing your own rig to that of the masses, I found one thing amusing; 97.98% of polled users had a DVD drive, something I do not. I'd always felt comfortable with this, games and other media being so easily available digitally these days, but now, I feel a little...alone. Malevolence 6 Posted January 9, 2010 Pretty interesting survey. I was kind of expecting more average gamers' setup using AMD's processor because its a cheaper alternative so they can save up on a better graphics card. Share this post Link to post
Luk3us 63 Posted January 9, 2010 Hmm, so my computer specs are roughly average or above average according to that survey. Well its nice to know I'm not lagging behind. AMD was rather popular for a while there, but seems people still prefer intel. I know I do. Share this post Link to post
Malevolence 6 Posted January 9, 2010 I guess it doesn't really matter to compare with other gamers' setups because ultimately it depends what type of games you are playing. If you are those players who enjoy simple flash based games or low setting types then a single core budget rig is more than enough. For those hard core enthusiasts who want to play games such as "Batman: Arkham Asylum", "Crysis", "GTA 4" etc will have to choose the best of the best components (as of now Nvidia EVGA GTX285 Quad SLI or ATI 5970 Quad CrossFireX) out there for the full highest setting and pure eye candy enjoyment and satisfaction. Doctor Destiny 41 Posted January 9, 2010 or they can just play on medium. That looks good enough. Share this post Link to post
Inferno 22 Posted January 9, 2010 or they can just play on medium. That looks good enough. This dont care for spending €1000+ on a pc that'll be outdated within the same year Share this post Link to post
Mighty BOB! 5 Posted January 9, 2010 If they're just a casual flash game player then they probably don't even know what Steam is, and therefore their hardware is not a part of this survey. Also yay, new RAM and Win7 is on the way! Share this post Link to post
TheBlackOut 7 Posted January 11, 2010 Pretty interesting survey. I was kind of expecting more average gamers' setup using AMD's processor because its a cheaper alternative so they can save up on a better graphics card. Why? CPU > GPU in any game rig. CPU is the most important. AMD was rather popular for a while there, but seems people still prefer intel. I know I do. AMD was rather pwning Intel for a while there (5 years or so back, when 939 was around) but then Intel gained the upperhand for a bit (no to mention illegal market stuff, which AMD won on recently ).
