SP Campaign gameplay

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I've started playing the campaign.

I'm finding the techniques required for SP campaign rather difficult to get my head around. The first real mission is a "protect-the-convoy" one, but your convoy has to go past three enemy crawlers. I'm struggling with my skills to effectively beat the mission, I've hard to drop down from Hard to Easy just get on with it.

My issue is my 1x pop cap v 3x pop-caps creates an obvious problem. I am required to utilise my entire arsenal to engage one crawler, but it leaves the other two crawlers a free shot to kill the convoy. And of course due to the game mechanics the destroyed crawler just comes back in a few minutes.

Perhaps this in indication of old-school base-building style failing in the new engine with a more mobile tactical strategy required.

It just seemed the preceding missions were woefully inadequate in preparing me (tactically) for what is a really hard mission early on.

(It made me want to play online to rank up so I could complete the SP mission on hard.)

Don't spoil the story and I'm not really interested in your tips, cheats, exploits or rudimentary walkthrough either... but I'm interested in your experiences.

Tech up your ranking levels first using MP or skirmish until you unlocked certain desired stuff.

It should help in the campaign. I find it extremely tough to play if you start SP first and have all the stuff locked.

An ideal situation if to have the crawler at least of tier 2 or 3 capacities so it can defend/attack. I rushed cheap bulldogs with full upgrades to clear the way for my convoys.

I just find the strategy of teching up in other modes to be more competitive in another mode counter-productive... dare I say it... appalling.

SP missions should be scaled according to the tech level available....

I guess you can add this issue as one of the cons in the new mechanics in C&C4.

This game sucks. lol, I'm on the 3rd level for Nod now, and its just annoying. All my units and such I had were utter crap, so I went and played a few skirmishes and jacked up my XP level so I could get some nice gear. Now its a bit better.

Mission design thus far is kinda dull. Meh.

I am I missing something? Playing skirmish I collect the tiberium crystals for upgrade points, return them to my deploy zone. I see I have them but it won't let me use them. Do I need more XP?

Yes. You have to play more in skirmish or multiplayer first to increase your rank levels. By increasing the rank levels then the locked units/structures/powers will be unlocked. Only then u can use the collected tiberium crystals to select your upgrade stuff.

So when your just starting out there is no point in collecting tiberium crystals then.

Maybe for one crystal since you will only be given one free unlocked upgrade stuff, if i recall it could be the reloading thing.

Just finished the Nod Campagin, how utterly boring.

I like how they added red tib crystals which just bypasses their entire concept of teching...

Gben is right, the campaign should be scaled to your abilities. But not only that, it should offer the right amount of XP per mission so you can advance fluidly enough to have the gear you'll need in later missions without needing to grind in skirmish or online. They really need to be distinct entities. It's okay if your skirmish and multiplayer XP adds to your campaign XP, but it shouldn't be required.

What I don't get - is I finished the campaign well before I unlocked all the units and upgrades etc

ie. I never got to build Avatars and Mastodons!

That just seems like a ludicrous design!

Oh you know how it goes, "durr, make a small amount of content and then artificially stretch it out over a much longer period of time than the content actually warrants." Rats in a Skinner box.

These are my exact thoughts. I didn't realize the last mission was the last mission until I threw up after the final cinematic.

I'm amusing myself, and I say that lightly, by levelling up in 5v5 skirmish, so that I can redo the campaign with full complements.

The Campaign needs some serious balancing.. The first GDI missions where hard but the last one was like a screensaver of Nod Units getting destroyed for 9 minutes

Was it just me or was the Nod campaign a lot harder than the GDI one?

I though the GDI one overall was hardest.

I had to grind about 4 matches for GDI just so I could move ahead in the SP missions.
