C&C 4 Connection Issue Fix for Some Users

Recommended Posts

If your still having connection issues with Command & Conquer 4, this post by APOC on the Official C&C Forums may help you until the official patch is released. The team at EALA are fully aware of the current connectivity issues affecting some people, but in the mean time see if this helps.

First off, after analyzing many user cases, we are confident one of the primary reasons for your connection losses is related to using the cracked and/or pirated version of C&C 4. While its unusual for me to offer help in this regard, Its critical to ensure you repair your computer correctly. We've seen quite a few cases where THIS HAS WORKED and solved peoples issues. We understand, some of your reservations about the connection requirement may have led you to use the crack.

So, if you downloaded a C&C 4 crack that modified your user windows host file to essentially spoof a fake C&C 4 server, so you could play single-player, and then you decided to stop running the crack, maybe you even deleted the crack file, the changes to the host file STILL REMAIN. This means if you are trying to legitimately play C&C 4 with a retail version after using/deleting a crack you are not connecting to our production servers because you are still redirecting the connection to your local machine (i.e. like the crack does).

So, in order to reset your windows host file back to default, the way it should be, please follow these simple steps from Microsoft

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-u...x=9&y=12%20

The above is not meant to disregard any other users with real connection issue problems. Our upcoming patch fixes a couple of critical issues related to such issues, and we are working with a number of customers to understand if any other significant issues persist.

As of right now, we've seen very consistent play online via our PSU graphs. Apologies to anyone who has intermittent disconnections, please understand we are working tirelessly to assess any issues.

If you used a crack to play however, please follow the above steps. It should solve your issue.

Click here for the original post. And as I mentioned a few days ago. There are people on the Official C&C Forums offering their own ways to fix connection/crash issues with Command & Conquer 4. Some of these include posting links to their own unofficial manual patches or suggesting that you delete/edit Windows system files. CNCNZ.com recommends that you not try any of these methods, only if EA gives the all clear such as APOC's post above. If you were to use any of the unofficial fixes you could run into more problems when the official update arrives.

It is actually quite funny that EA's new DRM was reverse-engineered in a few days, rendering the whole DRM useless. Now it will truly only annoy the people who bought the game. Epic poetic justice?

It's like that for all DRM these days

there is a crack out there that works and not mess upd host file in windows

but playing totally offline will not give you the ability to "continue" a single player game, and it will not work well for those cracked the game and then got a cd-key and tried it only, will mess players data for good!

i prefair EALA online system vs crack,

i nevered had issues since release date, not even once,

but i admit this is the 1st cnc game i am not crazy to play for hours the day, i just dont lke how the gameplay turned out, and i want to see the story as fast as possible.

Be mindful of our forum rules with this thread please. Discussion of cracks and anything along those lines is not allowed.

The connection issue has only affected a small number of players, there are many that can play it problem free.
