The mod community is lacking

Recommended Posts

I notice the Red Alert 3 mod communities are lacking in activity and mods for Red Alert are lacking in substance and anything new. Most mods for Red Alert 3 is usually regurgitated mods using the same units and maybe some enhancements from the Uprising expansion. A lot of 'oh hum' been there done that mess. Has people lost interest in Red Alert 3 (with no surprise given that EA royally screwed up the RA series forever) or has everyone jumped on the Command and Conquer 4 bandwagon like a bunch of EA lemmings?

PISS!!!!

Well way to frakking go, how in hell am I suppose to get help on my mods now eh? This is just frakking great...it's like Tiberium wars all over again. There was more than enough people modding Generals and it still has a huge mod community but oooh no.... No one likes modding some other games or jump on the latest and greatest thing while totally neglecting the people who want to mod games other than generals.

Frak this mess!

lol, you have a problem man :haha:

It ain't the modders fault that the latest C&C games are so hard to mod. Come back in a few years and the world of C&C modding might look brighter.

You could also check out Moddb regulary, even though there isn't much RA3 full conversion going on atm. It'll come, don't worry.

The change between Tiberium Wars and Generals/WW era games is huge. INI files have fallen by the wayside and we're left compiling XML-based code with the graphics interspersed. The issue with TW, RA3 and C&C4 (if it gets an MDK) is the fact that they're 3D and require a hell of a lot more in the way of graphics. Even modeling, texturing, rigging and boning a 3D model for Zero Hour takes less time than one for TW, at least as far as I'm aware.

TW and up have little to no community made tools whereas the entire First Decade relied heavily upon them. Factor that in with fully closed sourced modding and absolutely no free source graphics, the moddability takes a massive dive in the wrong direction. This is why Zero Hour, Red Alert 2 and even Tiberian goddamn Sun are modded more heavily than their counterparts.

The RA3 Modding community isn't dead yet. The thing is that Bibber is almost done with the RA3 Uprising content, such as his RA3 Upheaval mod. His RA3 Grantaball mod still has some work left to do before a full release.

I am about to end RA3 modding for good after I finished with RA3 Reloaded final. I am about to hit something deeper in the C&C3/KW modding area if I can do it and have time.

The only other active RA3 mod in progress is Huhnu Alert 3: http://www.moddb.com/mods/huhnu-alert
