tiny maps - help!

Recommended Posts

Hey Folks,

Yesterday I took a trip down memory lane and did a search for C&C. I was amazed to find all these C&C communities, and downloads! Brilliant!

I downloaded all the latest bits from the Command & Conquer Gold: Project 1.06, here: http://www.nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cnc95upd/cc95p106/

However, when I try to play against another person via LAN, no matter which map we choose it's always TINY and there's very little room to build. We're on top of each other within 3 or 4 minutes. The maps are so small they're unplayable.

Can anyone help point me to bigger maps or perhaps tell me what I'm overlooking? I feel like I must be doing something wrong, somehow.

I am so excited about being able to play C&C again, against other people! Thanks so much to all the folks who have spent time keeping it alive, building out the code, and setting up all these communities, etc.

If I can just get waaaay bigger maps, I'll be all set.

Cheers!

The C&C Comm Center has a bunch of maps, but you have to keep in mind C&C maps CAN'T be larger than 62x62 cells. It's an engine limitation.

btw, the C&C Comm Center also has a C&C95 online community, which uses CnCNet to play up to 6-player games online ;)

Is it the engines limitation for making "new" maps? Or skirmish maps in general? I only ask that because WAAAAY back in the day when it was possible to play C&C on WOL the skirmish maps they had to offer where much bigger.

ALL C&C1 maps have a technical maximum of 62x62. It's a game engine limitation which has always existed. You're just remembering WOL on a smaller GAME RESOLUTION, or you're thinking of RA maps.

That's weird, those maps back then seemed way bigger than 62x62. I remember one map called "Ore Gardens" or something, and I remember it being a larger style map. Or maybe 62x62 is actually pretty big. It's been awhile since I've messed around with those sizes and configurations. Oh well.

Ore is RA. Maybe you ARE thinking of the wrong game.

However, if you mean Tiberium Garden, then yes, that's 62x62. Which really is actually pretty big:

well, WHY Westwood put mission start positions in multiplayers maps? (waypoint 26)

also, Tiberium garden is the only 6-players maps with 5 places...

[edit]

The 6-player patch was added by default by Nyerguds, so the places should be engoth. The only thing i not understeanded is that waypoint at the north of the 26 waypoint (or Mission start position).

Yeah that's it Nyer. 62 x 62 IS bigger than I remember. That's cool lol. Brings back memories of doing comp stomps with AI that didn't build bases. Such a shame :(

Pichorra: Actually I've seen this a lot; odd clumps of waypoints on the maps. I wonder if waypoints above 25 are used by the spawn point logic, since these odd waypoints don't seem to interfere with the spawning. I've played this map quite a lot and never seen anyone spawn there.

Not sure about the Waypoint 5 though...
