When paying ZH solo skirmish, on the 6 or 8 player maps the hesitation is maddiing "moves for a second freezes for a second or more.". I have done everything I can think of. XP, 2gig cpu, 512 ram, upgraded video card from FX 5200 to 9600 Pro, nothing running in the background, diect X 9.0b, I've upgraded everything I can think of no help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

OK I'm looking at this from a lesser technical side and saying that if everything appears OK, and everything is updated and running fine as possibly can be then it might be one of the following, follow this check list...

* How much space do you have on your Hard Disk? Try freeing up some space if your short

* Is your hard disk defragmented?

* Run a virus check! Viruses can slow systems down significantly even if they don't appear to at first

* Check for errors! If your PC hasn't been shut down properly allow XP to run an error check, there could be corrupt files causing the PC to slow

* Search for spyware and other needless rubbish on the system! Programs you don't need can still take up memory as processes, even if they don't appear as applications

There may be a few more checks that you might wish to do like running windows update as well as making sure video card drivers (and all drivers for that matter) are up to date.. as well as checking that all Hardware is not conflicting and is working properly using your hardware profiler!!

Failing that there it may be the simplest thing in the book, your graphics settings.... No doubt because you appear to have a powerful card may not mean that you can have all the settings cranked up, try turning them down in the Generals options settings as well as the resolution the game plays in to something a bit easier for the card to handle...

Hope that helps, if not then come back, and either I or one of our acommplished technical staff or anyone on the community might be able to be of more assitance to you..

My hard drive is 200+ gig 20% full, and fully defraged.

ALL drivers are up to date.

Absolutely virus free.

Absolutly spyware free.

XP is up to date.

I checked my graphis card settings, they are generic. Nothing fancy.

1024x768 16 bit color, no screensavers. 75hz monitor.

Try turning the graphics down and play a big game, that might help. With more than 4 AI players Generals does start to really get cpu intensive.

That problem you describe has been a problem since Generals. Many people have reported it and so far nothing has been discovered that fixes it. Most people agree its simply bad coding on EA's part.
