Guest durff Posted July 7, 2004 A majority of multi-player maps are really sluggish when playing over the LAN with a gigabyte backbone. Ussually occurs when having 3 or more computers players with 2 human players. Both machine Specs are the same. 2Ghz CPU 1Gig RAM 128 Radeon 9000 WINXP Share this post Link to post
Guest durff Posted July 7, 2004 Yes a large majority of the 6 player or more maps. Some seem to drag a lot more than others. It also doesn’t matter whether the maps are official or unofficial. Share this post Link to post
Guest durff Posted July 7, 2004 If I'm single player with a large number of comp. opponents I have no issues on either machine. But you add in another human player over the LAN then drags, and drags badly on some maps. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted July 8, 2004 ok, i don't know your backround with comps, but do they have gigabit lan, because a gigabit backbone means nothing if you have a 10/100 nic. also are they updated drivers. And who made the comp, because most major computer makers (gateway, dell) use really ****ty hard drives in their stock systems. And are those Pentium or AMD chips Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted July 8, 2004 Yes, I'm running with 2 10/100/1000 Nics and a Linksys Giga-switch. I made both machines running with Maxtor 7200 RPM HD, both are AMD chips. Share this post Link to post
Hans5849 0 Posted July 9, 2004 well the only piece of equipment that would be holding your system up would be the Radeon 9000, i have one in the comp i play generals on and i will say that i do experience lag a lot. Out side of upgrading your hardware there really isn't much you can do, try lowering some of the settings in it. Also are your NICs onboard or are they a PCI add on, because if they are a PCI add on then the max they can run at is 350-400 Mbps, but that still shouldn't make a difference. Gazdude 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Its simple, bigger maps take up more computer power....... Plus its going to slow down abit on LAN because the computers have to synchronize with each other on a costant relay.. The main thing you need to look out for on LAN is the slower computer because the game will be running only as fast as that computer can run it... e.g. if one comp has an AMD XP2500 and another has an Pt 4 3.0ghz you will only be able to run the game at the speed of the AMD... so it doesnt matter if you can run a full map at high speeds on skirmish because the LAN can only run as fast as the slower CPU on LAN.. Any LAN speed above 100mbps is more than enough for Generals Share this post Link to post
