Recommended Posts

On Twitter, Chase Boyajin, cinematographer, editor and motion graphic artist at EA in Los Angeles, announced that he is working on new trailers for EA's upcoming games for this year's E3 event, notably Dragon Age 3 and the next Command & Conquer game, which implies the game will be featured at E3 2013, from June 11 through to June 13, 2013.

also some info about the navigation bar

@Serbusfish We will begin with a bottom bar - But we know how important a side bar is for many of our fans. So it is on our backlog

Let's get some real arguments why one where chosen over the other. That would at least make those fans understand instead of being left with speculation.

I really think being able to switch between bottom or side bar is the best solution. It can't be that much extra work to implement since they already have a bottom bar and intend to make a side bar.

I imagine it can be difficult to implement late in the development process. Changing the interface may have a broad range of effects throughout the experience of the game. All I want is the arguments for why bottom bar is chosen over the sidebar, because I have a hard time finding much logic in that.

no its not "that" easy as you describe it :)

in order the ui to be both vertical and horizontal, the team must design a user interface splited in 3 sections or more and place those sections in the proper positions!

the ui, cant work differently because its indeed a LOT of extra work!

what do i mean

the ui should be splited like that in 3 indepented "blocks" that can be attacked easy to the vertical or horizonatl ui.

if its one solid ui design like generals 1 or red alert 2 it cant happen, they are also not scelable, and then it needs total redesign.

but if its like those pictures i just draw to explain you, like supream commander or other games, then yes teh swtich should be easy.

(personaly i dont care, but i think the vertical (clasic) gives you more usable map space), its all about the camera max height.

The side bar/bottom bar issue was discussed at length during the December summit trip at the studio. The general consensus was that a side bar was most preferred, because its traditional. Personally I like the idea of moving the GUI around the screen to set it up how you like it. Basically the same way you can drag/drop/lock the task bar in Windows.
