Command & Conquer Cancellation / Victory Games Closure FAQ

Recommended Posts

As originally posted here http://www.commandandconquer.com/forums/index.php/forum-114/announcement-3-command-and-conquer-cancellation-victory-closure-faq/ on the Official C&C Forums.....

Hey there C&C community. As you guys most likely have heard by now, some unfortunate events happened recently involving the world of C&C. I figured the least we could do on the moderation side is get a thread going that answers some frequently asked questions.

What happened?
On October 29th, 2013, Victory Games announced that Command and Conquer was cancelled. Following that, Victory Games was closed, with all employees laid off.

Who's left here on the forums?
Several Victory Games developers have left goodbye posts. Aside from that it appears that only the community, and community moderation team still exists here (and some EA staff).

Where are things at with Victory Games, will they make other games?
From what we've gathered Victory Games was wholly owned by EA, and has been completely shut down. All employees laid off according to statements by former employees.

Is Command & Conquer, the free to play game in alpha, dead?
Yes, the Alpha has been suspended until further notice.

Is the C&C franchise dead for good?
No, EA is currently investigating next steps for this amazing franchise and community. More information to come in the future.

Can I still play the free to play C&C alpha?
The Alpha Test is concluded and will no longer be accessible.

I spent money on the C&C alpha, I want my money back!
From what we've gathered all money spent at the time of announcement will be refunded.

Proof? Else this is just speculation.

Nice all-in-one FAQ with links, though. Makes refering and searching easier.

Actually, right here:

We believe that Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with huge potential and a great history, and we are determined to get the best game made as soon as possible. To that end, we have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the game back on track. We look forward to sharing more news about the franchise as it develops. Thank you again for your participation and support.

That's a pre-made announcement that was written by a higher-level branch at EA to cover up the real background on the closure. If they lied about the reasons why C&C2013 was cancelled, then I have reasons to doubt the statement of "looking at a number of alternatives".

Well, it's the only official statement given, so of course, people will listen to that. The press also reported the same thing. If EA decides to cancel it entirely, I'm sure they will make another press release for that event. But for now, that is really the only thing out there.
