Starcraft II Starter Edition

Recommended Posts

I have never attempted to install this until now and guess what? The first time I installed this via digital download is downloading/installing the Battle.net program, and shockingly it wants me to download the entire 13.1 GB of Starcraft II WOL and the HOTS expansion even if I wanted only the Starter Edition. I initially thought the download was around 7 GB. Something tells me is why would Blizzard give away the complete full game to download in the first place? They may have DRM on some of the files and in the server, but anybody could modify the game into a full version without paying/activating with a game code(s) and that would be illegal. The same thing I also found out for Diablo III Starter Edition but I didn't want to install that one yet due to a much bigger download than STII.

Now comes the other question, is the STII Starter Edition the best game demo of all time? :o

Part of the answer lies in the Spawning system implemented some time later. SE appears to be compatible with standard game installs.

Probably.

Something tells me ever since patch 2.10, Starcraft II is seemingly now 50% free-to-play, excluding limited campaign missions, challenges, experience ranking and multiplayer.

After downloading the whole game, I found out that all 164 official Blizzard skirmish/MP maps are playable in the Custom Games section of the Starter Edition. That's unreal. Even mods are now supported... meaning that someday people using the Starter Edition (who won't pay for the whole thing) could launch some add-on mod that could possibly play all of the campaign missions the alternative way as custom missions, but who knows if that's even possible.... not to mention illegitimate to Blizzard.

When Starcraft II was released in 2010, HotS was released about three years later, so I am assuming that LOTV will be released in the season of 2015-2016. By that time, Blizzard had better release a Blu-ray version of the Starcraft II compilation pack with two expansions other than the LOTV expansion release.
