Sonic 295 Posted July 27, 2016 Went and watched Star Trek Beyond last night. Really enjoyed it. This one was a true Trek movie. Loved the new characters and enemies. I would rate it better than Into Darkness. Minor spoiler below..... There is really awesome in movie tribute to Spock Prime/Ambassador Spock. As Spock (Zachary Quinto) in the new time line receives word of Ambassador Spock's passing. And then towards the end of the movie Spock looks through a box of Ambassador Spock's personal possessions and finds photo of the original Enterprise crew from the original time line. The movie is also dedicated to Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin. Share this post Link to post
Lauren 78 Posted July 28, 2016 I liked it for being a comedy, but wouldn't watch it a second time in theaters like I did with Episode 7. It had its moments, and there are some really great references to old Star Trek, but imo the story falls flat yet again. Share this post Link to post
Plok 327 Posted July 30, 2016 I really don't know what to think of Beyond. Making firm connections to the ENT era gives it the opportunity to have fewer continuity errors, but we're talking ENT here I don't recall a recent show or film I cringed at as much as the Sabotage scene. A good moment, yet so wrong for using an out-of-world commercial song. Do modern films now have a requirement for that because of sponsorship or whatever? The way they honoured Nimoy was very well done, and the return of the letter-behind-registry naming of a rebuilt ship made me happier than it should have. Share this post Link to post
Gben 20 Posted August 3, 2016 I saw it this week, I thought it was pretty flat.I did really like the way it handled Nimoy, but felt it needed to do more for Anton. A simple dedication at the start of the film was what I was expecting. I am SICK of the enterprise blowing up and crashing on planets. It makes me furious! The first time they killed the enterprise it had almost 30 years (1966-1984) of history... it meant something to the fans and therefore the characters/actors... now it dies easier and as frequently as a Shield Heli-Carrier! I want to see a movie where the enterprise is a central character, and that the ship and it's crew do something amazing against overwhelming odds. Not dirt bikes... Or transporters than span galaxies... The Klingons thought the enterprise was a battle cruiser... Apparently no-one at Paramount does... Share this post Link to post
