Generals (not ZH) crawl

Recommended Posts

I've had a look for other threads and didn't find one.

I am almost finished Generals but this is really getting to me. After about 20 minutes play the game begins to crawl and the sound chops and becomes unplayable. I have to kill the game and restart it.

I have a friend comming over and I want to LAN it so ofcourse I don't wamt to have to restart it.

It could be your video card, the GeForce 4 MX4000 is nothing but a rebadged Geforce 2.

Based on past threads I've seen the older Nvidia 44.23 Detonator drivers work best for older Nvidia chips, you could try those.

Download them from http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html

im going to reccomend upgrading your video card, a radeon 9800xt goes for a little more than a radeon x600xt and gives much more preformance. Here are my simple recomendations, ATI: Stay away from SE cards (9800SE) nvidia: FX5200 isn't a good card. http://www.pricewatch.com/ get your prices there

Actually http://www.pricespy.co.nz would be a better option since Apparitionnz is a Kiwi ;)

A Radeon 9800 XT 256MB costs about $550-$650 NZ Dollars, way to much money to sink into a video card

Actually the MX 4000 is not a re-badged geforce 2. It's a base geforce 4 with no extras. Also I should add that I play warhammer 40000, Doom3 and UT2004 with it and without problems.

Since it was working great for 15 to 20 minutes before processing like Bush. I had an idea come to me that it could be a leak of some sort and started shutting down services and found I had an outpost firewall service running that I haden't seen.

The short version is that it's all fixed :) . The down side is that I only had 3 missions to go

BTW - the UT2003/4 engine is a hell of a lot better than the Doom3 one which looks like EF2 with bells added and EF2 was the quake3 engine with bells added.

My Video Card is 9800 Pro 128MB, costs 225 Euro (180 US dollar) and Generals/ZH works perfectly at highest settings. Keep in mind that large maps (particularly Twilight Flame) lag a lot with many players. This is mainly due to bad coding on EA's side

Well it doesn't surprise me that you have had these problems with Generals. I assume by the subject of your thread here saying "not Zero Hour" that you haven't had these problems with the expansion?

The good thing about Zero Hour is the EA actually spent time optimizing the SAGE engine. Thats what I noticed when I first got Zero Hour, how much smoother the game played.

You mean zero hour is not just an expansion, it's an upgrade also?

I don't have ZH and I haven't seen around town.

Most shops have the FPS, racing games and the sims :(

Well not really an upgrade because it doesn't changing anything to with the original C&C Generals. Zero Hour really is worthing getting. It feels better to play because some of the new units are really cool. Its only let down is the lack of single player missions for USA, China and GLA (5 per side only). But you do get the awesome Generals Challenge mode.

Read our Zero Hour section on our site for more: http://www.cncnz.com/games/zero_hour/

If you having trouble finding it in your area look no further than GPstore http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Games/1457773.html
