What's up all?

Recommended Posts

Wow, this place is still here! I should never have left, eh? And these days I'm almost a kiwi too (currently residing in Melbourne, Australia), hah!

I won't ask what's been happening since I've been gone, seeing as I haven't spoken to you guys in ages, but I'm curious to see if a few names I recognize will pop by to say hi.

Anyway, I'm having a sleepless night, going through old bookmarks and memories. Good to see the blue and gold is still with us!

Holy old forum visitors!! How are you Eskil??

You better remember me, I've been here 7 years lol.

Anyway, alot has gone on here, alot of the old people you may remember have long disappeared as regulars, but myself and Sonic are still here and will certainly not be going anywhere. As webmasters of CNCNZ we will go down with this ship before you see the last of us let me assure you that.

But this ship will not be sinking anytime soon. I will make sure of that.

Hi Eskil, long time no see. Man, its been so long since we last has any form of contact with one another. I thought you have moved to another planet or something, but I see you settled for Aussie life instead

Since your close enough you should get over to New Zealand, 2 hour flight and your there.

Yes CNCNZ.com is still going, its a part of me that I can't let go. I won't lie though it has been tough keep the interest high at times since C&C's future is a bit cloudy but I like to concentrate on the bright side and stay positive.

For those who don't know (because you all don't anyway) Eskil was one of the original staff of CNCNZ.com, even dating back to our early days in 1998 and 1999 as TSNNZ, back then he used the name Viper.

Indeed, I was the second helping hand that Sonic took on this ship, back around september 1998. Damn, that's a long time ago, isn't it?

I left in 2000 (I believe) due to me not having time to do much (especially to fulfill my duties as co-webmaster), and because I found my interest in the C&C series going steadily downhill. I'm extremely impressed with the work you've managed to put into this site, Chris. I was back in 2000, and I'm even more so now. I wish I had your determination when it came to my assignments *grins*

I definitely would love to visit NZ, but it won't be for a good while yet. Money troubles as a student, plus the fact that I have a Master Thesis to finish, will keep me inside Melbourne's borders for close to a year still, I'm afraid.

I'm currently in my last year of education, heading towards a Master degree in Computer Science, with specialising in games programming and development. So my interest in gaming in general is strong as ever, and I owe much to my time here for getting my interested in things that go on behind the scenes, both in terms of getting a more inside look at the games industry through being a member of this community, and for getting my interest in making things on the computer that other people can enjoy (html was my first "programming" language, one could say).

For my first dodgy game, a Space Invaders remake, or tribute, head to my site and check out the news post. It's over a year old by now, and it was my first working game. I promise I'm better at it now, currently working on a networked game, a version of top-down Capture the flag. Anyway, enough pimping of my limited abilities, I'll step off my box. Later!

Quite simply put people this is one of the staff members that will go into the CNCNZ.com hall of fame. A great addition to the staff. Thus the reason for my line "Holy old forum visitors!!"

So this site is still going, huh?

Been on a nostalgia trip lately, checking up on old haunts and marking old visited places on Google maps. It's been 20 years since my last post here, and almost 25 years since I was a staff member of this site. I vaguely remember making this thread in 2005, thinking it was shocking that the site was still going, and that it seemed so old even then. The transformation of the internet from 2001 to 2005 was already mind-boggling, and it hasn't stopped since.

This is such a callback to classic internet for me, before it all became an endless battle for everyone's attention and dopamine. Some of my first online friendships were made through this site and the extended C&C community. As with almost everything else from back then, I have long since drifted out of touch with everyone I knew, and any chat logs or e-mails we may have exchanged have been lost in any one of a dozen hard drive crashes, upgrades, forgotten hard drives and moves.

I see activity has obviously dropped off to almost zero these days, which makes sense for multiple reasons I guess. There's not much interest in the franchise anymore, and these old sites dedicated to specific games have been dying off for at least two decades by now.

Anyway, I don't expect anyone to remember me here, or probably even read this post, but since my old login still worked I figured I'd leave a comment for myself to find in another 20 years.

So: Hello 65-year-old Eskil, how's life? I hope you're getting ready to retire soon; I'm sure you deserve it. How are the kids? Are you a grandfather yet?

Our own digital footprints are such a funny thing to come across. In many ways they're incredibly fleeting, and most of them will be gone within a few years when web sites close down or delete old content. But at the same time, every now and then these footprints are the longest-lived and clearest memories we have.

Long after our own memories have faded, photos have been lost, friends drifted out of touch, and locations we used to visit are now forever changed or far away - Every now and then we can come across these digital memorials of days gone by, still as fresh-looking as the day they were first made.

Anyway... Thanks @Sonic for the memories. I guess I will be very surprised to see this page still up in 2045, but then again - I would have said the same 20 years ago about 2025

Activity may be quite low, but this site is still something of an archive of years of modding and other C&C content. For that reason, it is good to keep it going into the indefinite future.
