War Veteran Celebrates His Birthday | 07/06/05

Recommended Posts

June 6th celebrates another milestone in one man's life. Henry Allingham, who lives in Eastbourne in the UK, is thought to be one of about only 20 surviving servicemen around the world from World War I. Making his 109th Birthday such a special occassion. He served at Ypres and at the Somme and was awarded France's highest military honour in 2003, in addition to various medals awarded by his own country.

Let's hope he celebrates many more years yet. It will be a great shame to see such great heroes gone forever. It will be up to us to make sure such great servicemen and women's memories live on throughout all generations to come.

And so many people degrade the lives of the old. People should respect them, especially the veterans of WW1 and WW2. There just isnt that kind of commitment around in people anymore. We all owe our lives to these people, both the commbat veterans and the workers on the home front.
