RA2: Running this Beast

Recommended Posts

Alright, I know there are already a million posts out there complaining about the same/similar things, but I can't find a conclusive solution. Actually, the interesting thing is, I can run RA2, but not very well. It's so odd, but after the game fires up, it sounds like my CD-ROM drive is working so hard to read it and everytime I change menus, it takes a second to load. What's more, once I start playing the game, it freezes every few seconds (it seems like it's waiting for the CD-ROM) to load something. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, please tell me what you did to fix it. Thanks.

There was a problem with slow loading if your computer had 2 cd drives; it was fixed by a patch - so make sure you have the latest version.

Heh, yeah, I had that problem, but I fixed it by making sure EVERY thing was in one drive.

Well, I do have two drives in my computer, but everything runs through my 52x CD-RW drive, which is also my primary (master) drive, so I can't imagine that being the problem. At any rate, I have both the original RA2 and YR fully updated, so I really don't know what the deal is. Any advice?

Okay, here's the real kicker. When I first installed RA2 and didn't update it, everything ran fine and there were no pauses every 5-10 seconds. However, after I installed YR and updated everything, it started happening. I have changed absolutely nothing since then as well. Quite odd! Grrr!

Yes, I read your post, but I'm trying to run just the original RA2 now and I want to be able to play it without it always pausing. Grrr!

get yourself a image mounter such ans daemon tools and make a .iso of your RA2 disc and run it from the drive. No more scratched CDs for meee!
