Given the IFC comparing America to Nazi Germany I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that they have decided that if they cannot touch the sacred ground of where the World Trade Centre once stood then it will not try and put across their views someplace else.

A group wanted to build what they called an International Freedom Centre at ground zero, but the proposed museum was considered disrespectful to the victims of September 11 (exhibits that portray America as deserving of terrorist attacks) and the plan was rejected. The IFC committee felt that if they could not build on such sacred ground they would not build at all.

I think they have that with Vietnam and Iraq. :wink: In all seriousness however all the "I'm great because I'm American" crapola gets real old real fast, and certainly at times they need a jolt to wake them up to how big a jerk it can act. The building of a shrine to how bad America is on the soil of victims of a terrorist attack however would be akin to a monuement to victory over the ANZACS on the beaches of Turkey.

There have been a few plans, such as rebuilding the World Trade Centre, making a massive reincarnation of it that would take up two area codes, a memorial or shrine of to the victims of September 11, leave it as is, and the scrapped Freedom Centre.

I think they should build 2 freedom towers, both taller than the original WTC.

 

I saw the WTC burning, there was a huge smoke plume in the direction of it...... and no TV afterwards, cause there most TV signals came from a huge antennae above one of the towers.

 

I always though the antennae shook too much....i had been there and gone up to teh top several times....my dad used to work in the WTC

It would be a good idea to simply rebuild the Twin Towers, maybe without the Patriot Missiles on top, and carry on life as if nothing had happened. Unfortunetly September 11 has changed the world forever, from having to be on the lookout for terrorism and the threat of terrorism to attitudes towards Muslims, government, those that people connect to terrorism and terrorist attacks.

If you had patriot missiles on the top of the twin towers a plane could still crash into it - they can glide for a long time.

Anyway, if the plane did crash it'd just land on some other people and kill them.

It still would send the wreckage down to the streets below and cause further mayhem. Unless the plane was vaporised it would not be a viable option. The solution in my mind is to have the best security possible at airports and air marshals on planes to ensure hijackings do not happen in the first place. Do what the Ethiopians did some years back when someone tried to hijack one of their aircraft; strap them into the seats, put towels around their necks and then slit their throats.

But that way it is too great a risk, as there is no telling who might hijack the plane. It is not as easy as just barring all Muslims from air travel. Some anti Bush nut might try and hijack a plane and fly it into the White House in the hope of killing who they believe is worse than Hitler.

Shooting a gun in an aroplane = loss of cabin pressure = emergency landing :roll:

 

The answer is for the US to beef up their security on internal flights. I have flown internally in the US both before and after 9/11 and from what I can see it's still just as easy to hijack a plane.
