Slower than a 1 legged turtle

Here's the deal. Zero Hour slowed down to a crawl when I installed "The First Decade". Any ideas?

A common problem is performance-sapping background applications. Try closing EVERYTHING before playing, including virus protection, chat programs, etc.

That cant be it. Why? I had no Internet until 5 days ago and the problem started 1 month ago. Plus, I did close everything I could.

I know this might sound odd, but take a screenshot of your desktop. I think I might have an idea of what it could be.

If you're using XP, change your scheme to Windows Classic and turn off unnecessary services.

Also, use Prtint Screen or ALT + Print Screen to take a screen cap.

Nonono, leave it as it is, don't change themes or anything.

Just push "Print Screen" on your keyboard, and then open paint, paste it on there, and host the picture oh photobucket or something.

I just want to see what kind of windows you're running, even if it says XP. I think there might be a reason to it.

Oh, wow, sorry for my late response Fenrir.

Nice desktop. Very nice.

And @ Beware, it's art. Honestly, you don't have to make fun of things that people appreciate, just because you personally don't like them.

Oh, and by the way, send me teh link to teh pic.

All of the "off-topic" discussion has been removed from this thread. Continue to discuss the problem Fenris is having with Zero Hour.

I could have locked this thread but that would defeat the purpose of the Tech Support forum.

Oh, wait, in the confusion about the picture, I forgot about the reason I told you to take teh screenshot.

It's normal XP alright...

There are some ways to install vista / longhorn, but have the machine say it's still XP, so I don't know. Looks normal to me.

You could try it. If the new disk works, just put the old disk in the new box and return it :haha:

In the system properties you posted you say that you have 922 MB of RAM. Thats an odd total for system memory. Do you have an onboard video card?

Onboard video shares your system memory.

If you do have an onboard video card this would explain why Zero Hour performs so slowly for you.

Make sure your system has an AGP slot or PCI-E (which is better) slot and get yourself a decent video card.

As I said before, onboard video simply doesn't have enough grunt for games like Generals/Zero Hour. In fact you may even find your current onboard set up on the Gen/ZH Unsupported Video Cards list.

Might as well. Im going to need one for "C&C 3" anyway. Looks like im stuck playing YR...all alone...with no one to lose against...by myself...

You should get a Geforce 6600 GT, anything higher than that would be overkill for your CPU.

Your 1 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM (when add a video it will free up the shared memory) plus a 6600 GT would probably let you run C&C3 in low details.
