funny you should mention that...

 

I'm aquiring a Musicman Stingray bass (www.musiciansfriend.com) in about a week, and there are 4 well written (and I mean well written, played, ect. Blistering coolness) songs. Vortex consists of "The Prince"-lead guitars, "The Percussionator"-drums and percussion, and "Cygnus" (me) Vocals, Bass, keyboards, and occasion rhythm guitar.

 

Got a show in 3 weeks, plus another one late Sept/early October. ("show" is a loose term here, its local venues that play local bandds)

I can't really pick at James's voice, since the sound quality is so bad. But it doesn't sound bad.

Any of the new songs that Metallica have performed at these recent shows can't be judged until you listen to the studio produced versions. Assuming these songs even make the cut for the next album.

 

Metallica did the exact same thing during the recording of the Load/Reload albums. The played new stuff for fans back then to see what they liked.

The second one (

) wasn't that bad. I can just chalk up my earlier comments to him being tired, or on the bottle, or on something.

 

Besides the "whooooooaoaaaa. WHOOOOOAH, OO WHOAAA", lyrics aren't bad either.

Aside from Styx and Foriegner, I havent heard a band that is actually really close to having their original voice still. Rush does, but the overal tone of the voice is lower.
