osey 2003 0 Posted December 23, 2003 Hi all i just wanted to say that i got need for speed underground a few days ago for the pc and it is great! a cool game with grate graphics, gameplay and soundtrack! you can mod your cars using neon under lights spoilers all sorts of different alloy wheels and lots more! there is a few bad things however! when you crash the cars you see no damage done to them and it would be cool to see some destruction done to expensive fast cars so the game could be a little bit better but never the less its still worth buying! Khyber 0 Posted December 23, 2003 Wait a week or 2 and you'll realize that it's not that great. Share this post Link to post

Guest Bill Steamshovel Posted January 22, 2004 Need For Speed Underground got me back into car racing games. Sometimes you have to break up the RTS and FPS action with something thats a little different. Ever since my mates and I got sick of Armagetron, we needed something to fill the void and Need For Speed Underground has performed admirably. The Lap Knockout and Drift races add variety to the typical lap racing and Drag racing is just plain cool. My only problem with it is the overabundance of rice burners. You start out with a good variety of options, like US models and European models, but after that every single car is Japanese. It would be nice to get some different cars, like older models like a 66 Dodge Charger or some European cars like a Porsche 911 or a Lexus LS 120. A car making toolkit would have been cool. Its a shame they screwed up the way multiplayer works. You need a third party utility just for LANing and it takes a lot of screwing around to get a game going. Other than those the game is streets ahead of all the other car games out there. Share this post Link to post

Why call them 'rice-burners'? This game is about the underground scene. How often do you see 60's Chargers taking part? Porsche has had an entire NFS game dedicated to it, so for NFS:U to shift focus a bit is perfectly acceptable. PS, Lexus = toyota = japanese, and there's no 'LS 120.' Share this post Link to post
Rogue Leader 0 Posted January 22, 2004 I've heard really good things about NFS:U, but haven't had the money to pick it up yet. Maybe with my next paycheck.... Share this post Link to post

I usually see more Toranas, Commodores, Falcons, Escorts taking part. Maybe there are mods out there that allow you import new cars. If you are so sure there is no LS 120, you must know which model I'm refering to. What's it really called? Share this post Link to post
Shocker 0 Posted January 23, 2004 I doubt it's an LS-series, because those are uber-luxury vehicles, and I don't think many racers would have them purely because of their cost. For an uneducated guess because I don't know the specifics of the car you're thinking of, I'd say it would be an IS-series - IS200 or IS300. Share this post Link to post
KyleBrogan 0 Posted January 28, 2004 I really enjoy this game, mostly because I don't have the money to put lots of mods into my own car, and because I couldn't possibly afford the fines and/or jail time that racing said car on public streets would accumulate, so this is a good substitute. As a attendee in the LA street racing "scene," I've seen my fair share of racers and tricked-out cars, from some of the stock-looking guys running 12's in Palmdale, to the really trick cars at the shows in Vegas. I think that Underground did an excellent job in capturing the essence of the street-racing scene. And just for your information, while everyone has their preferences, imports are the most prominant vehicles on the street. It's because they're pretty cheap, easy to modify, are usually pretty reliable, and everyone's Mom has one that you can "borrow". Besides that, it's usually one of the first cars that you get as a kid, and therefore it's the kind of car that you read up on, and so when you buy a new one, you're hooked on them. (I just described my own experience of car-buying in life.) I'm just saying that I think EA did a good job with this game. Maybe there weren't a lot of muscle cars (read: none), and you didn't see Porches, or Lambos, or any of those other cars that never see the street scene anyway. I like the game anyway. - Sparticus Share this post Link to post
