SilentAssasin 0 Posted March 18, 2004 no sorry, thats a completely different issue Share this post Link to post
Guest None Posted December 20, 2004 I have been playing zero hour fine on normal but when I turned up the game to medium and the AI built a large base the slow down started. As read in a previous post, this is a software issue with the AI routine. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH YOUR HARDWARE AND DRIVERS SPECULATION. This is going to be code related and thus no straight answer from EA unless they release a newer patch other then 1.02. Share this post Link to post
SilentAssasin 0 Posted December 20, 2004 The chances of EA releasing another patch is very remote. So by the sounds of it will have to make-do with what we got Share this post Link to post
Guest Mikeyk Posted January 9, 2005 Yep me too, i have been searching for a solution to this problem for ages, in fact if you search on yahoo youll see that thousands of people have the exact same problem. It doesnt appear to be hardware or software (drivers) related, i think its the game itself, i have all the latest video/audio/motherboard/directx drivers, and im running a P4 3.06ghz, 1gig ram, and a brand new geforce 6800 gt, ive tried all the patchs, ive checked my power, temperatures, the lot, with no luck. It seems that zero hour just wont work properly on some computers. I get through about 15 mins of a skirmish game when it starts to stutter, silly thing is that normal generals runs fine for me. I'm thinking if it isnt the game itself maybe its something to do with windows xp or virtual memory maybe? Is this happening for anyone using windows 2000? Come on EA .. I think its about time we saw a new patch to sort this out?? Share this post Link to post
chickendippers 1 Posted January 9, 2005 HA! Patch, from EA! don't make me laugh  Share this post Link to post
SilentAssasin 0 Posted January 9, 2005 lol is funny alright. EA and the word patch are both mutually exclusive. Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Im am not sure this will be any help to those who are experiencing this problem and have a huge top of the line PC but i was having the same problem you mention, and followed all the steps mentioned above. I needed couple of updates but still didnt change much. I spent hour trying to figure it out, reading. And then i went and bought a 512MB of RAM and there it was. Problem solved. Like i said this doesnt help those who have 1gig of ram already but for those like me who think it might be the game of some software updates... Just buy more ram! Share this post Link to post
SilentAssasin 0 Posted January 11, 2005 if indeed the problem is a memory leak, adding more ram is more of a band-aid for the problem, rather then a fix. i mean 512mb should be enough as the requirements state that it only requires 128mb. But yeah if it fixed your problem consider yourself lucky Share this post Link to post
Guest Plazma444 Posted February 9, 2005 After studying the machine's actions for some time,I concluded that it is the way the game tells the computer how to route Units. For example, when you select a group to go into a GLA hole, they all have to figure out where to go to go in smoothly. The problem is that the computer sometimes goes into overthinking and calculates thousands of routes(and those are the lags)So,Simply by enabling the units to go through eachother (like they sometimes do) when it tries to overcompute, the lags would be solved. Sorry I'm not a programmer, but I've contacted ea about the specifics and they told me they'd consider it.If you want a patch Tell them the problem and the solution, Because frakly those engineers seem Idiotic at solving problems. BigScrape 0 Posted February 18, 2005 This topic has been ongoing for a while now so hopefully this will help someone. I had the same problems that everyone else is talking about, and here is how I fixed it. First download and install the Earth of War shellmap or any shell map of your choice. If you can live without the intro movie go into the Zero Hour directory find the sizzle bik files and change them to bak. You can also do this to the mission movie files if you like. This seems to keep the ram from getting bogged down. I play against multiple players and never have problems anymore. AMD 2700+ (2.176mghz) GFX 5500 Dominator O.C. chickendippers 1 Posted February 18, 2005 There's something you can add to the shortcut target to stop it from loading the shell map, it's on www.cncseries.com somewhere. Share this post Link to post
