Woofna 0 Posted November 12, 2006 I've played Generals a LOT with my Dell, but never with my old 256-megs-of-ram HP, because when I play, it does it in real, real time. As in, it takes as long to build a building as I imagine it would in real life. The generals engine uses the SAGE engine, and to my dissapointment, CNC 3 is going to use a polished-up SAGE engine. The question? WHY? I've been playing Ground Control a LOT, which seems to have similar graphics to EOD, and unlike the clumsy SAGE engine, it runs very, very smoothly on my computer, even the Hewlett-Packard. and the detail and graphics seem to be BETTER than those in Generals. So if some company I have never heard of can make a more efficient engine than EA did ... my question is, why? How? The SAGE engine locks my computer up constantly, uses an insane amount of memory for the minimum specs, which look kind of ****ty, and runs very choppy. So again. Why? What is so special about it? I realize and acknowledge that I know pretty much nothing about computers and programming, and may have missed a very important detail. But in my personal opinion, the SAGE engine is terrible, and I hate to thing that CNC3 is going to be the catalyst for me to buy a new computer so I can run it on minimum specs, at which point it will have lesser graphic quality than Ground Control did. Luk3us 63 Posted November 12, 2006 Its called reuse. It saves both time and money. Share this post Link to post
Doctor Destiny 42 Posted November 12, 2006 Play BFME and BFME2. That'll show you what the SAGE engine can do. Generals was the SAGE's inaugural game so of course it's not going to be pretty. The original SAGE engine is unnecessarily bloated and poorly coded but like anything else, it can be improved and it was done so masterfully with the BFME series. Share this post Link to post
Sonic 301 Posted November 12, 2006 Yeah the Generals SAGE engine will be nothing compared to the version that C&C 3 is using. Whats the big deal in EA re-using the SAGE engine anyway. Valve will be using and updated version of the SOURCE engine for future games. Share this post Link to post

Dim4uk 0 Posted December 15, 2006 I've played Generals a LOT with my Dell, but never with my old 256-megs-of-ram HP, because when I play, it does it in real, real time. As in, it takes as long to build a building as I imagine it would in real life When i played generals I used the max grafics it allowed to me, so stupid i was that the game run in speed of 50%. over time EA released new patches and somehow the game did run smoother espesialy with the 1.07 patch also used in z:h. so CNC3's sage will be like 1.2 if considering the hard work on lotr. Masked Shah 5 Posted December 15, 2006 EA Games is cheap. They are rotten. They tell you what you should buy. The GLA is currently trying to recruit the think tank from the company... We need the new evil blood... Share this post Link to post
